This position is for a Systems Analyst II on the Windows Enterprise Architecture team. This role will be responsible for the expert technical consultation in the area of Windows server virtualization, cloud onboarding, and overall operational health of Windows server platforms. This includes engineering new solutions, as well consulting with business partners to provide solutions to their computing needs. Primary duties include determining standards for IP’s virtualization host platform (VMware), assisting IP to utilize cloud based technologies in an efficient and cost effective manner, and helping to automate manual tasks via scripting technologies.


Our Windows Servers are close to 90 percent virtualized on VMWare ESXi hypervisor clusters which must also be installed, maintained and monitored for operational health. 


Applications support teams are the primary customers for this position. This role will work with internal teams and vendors to develop and implement solutions on our Windows and VMware host platforms.


Key performance indicators for this position include server availability, server hardware/operating system health, customer satisfaction ratings and server to admin ratios.


Due to the 24/7 support requirements of the position, the individual must be available for on-call duty after hours, on weekends, and on holidays on a rotational basis.



  • Continuously improve the efficiency and health of the VMware and Windows platforms
    • Second and third level troubleshooting for all Windows and VMware based servers – last line of support for the Windows and VMware server platforms (Cisco UCS and HPE ProLiant hardware platforms)
    • Third level trubleshooting for Active Directory
    • Implementation and support for Microsoft DHCP in North American locations
    • Automation and scripting to streamline support of the server platforms
    • Providing innovative solutions to challenging technical issues
    • Coordinate projects and support work with team members located in other countries and other time zones
    • Perform proper change management
  • Provide technical expertise
    • Act as a subject matter expert to team members, other support teams and vendors
    • Consult on complex projects
    • Engineer new solutions involving servers and storage for Windows and VMware platforms
    • Advanced VMWare Knwoledge - Provide Technical guidance on VMWare Platform Architecture
    • Provide consultation to customers requesting information about application and/or data hosting
    • Train other support teams on their particular applications, specialized configurations on the platform as well as standard software to maintain the environment
    • Provide feedback relating to operational issues
    • Ensure that improvements in and/or changes to operations are implemented and monitored to increase efficiency
    • Provide documentation on advanced technical issues
    • Keep abreast of technological advances within the IT industry
    • PowerShell scripting for task automation 
    • Knowledgeable on SAN and Network within Southwind Data Center
  • Execute R&D efforts that support WEA’s major customers
    • Perform appropriate R&D in the VMware and Windows space to determine strategic technical fits
    • Implement technology solutions and facilitate the transfer of support to Windows Enterprise Support
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and meet service level expectations for supported services:
    • Meet or exceed SLA expectations
    • Identify, test and implement changes to customer specific software and configurations to support overall application availability
    • Design, implement and monitor changes to operations and processes
    • Communicate with customers in the event of a server outage or other catastrophic event

  • This position will meet challenges with an ever-changing workload. There are always acquisitions, divestitures, and other large-scale projects that involve this team. This work is very dynamic, fast paced and very demanding at times. Multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment is a requirement of this role.

This position will have the potential to positively affect the business by providing quick, reliable technology solutions and service offerings relating to Cloud, VMware, and Windows server platforms.  This position contributes to a team that determines the standards for the Windows/VMware server environment, and Cloud based solutions at International Paper.  These include, but are not limited to:

The candidate should be able to work with minimum supervision. He/she will interact directly with vendors, internal support teams, application developers/owners, and end users for the purpose of supporting the Windows server environment.


Most assignments are broad, usually requiring originality and ingenuity.  The person must possess the ability to run and manage projects on his or her own. Typically, this person will have 8-10 years minimum of professional technical experience in the areas specified.

This person may be responsible for training and mentoring junior level team members.



  • This position requires a senior level individual with at least 7 years of technical knowledge in Windows Server operating systems, Active Directory, and VMware products.
  • Expert knowledge with Microsoft Windows Server platforms 
  • Expert knowledge and support experience with VMware server virtualization solutions (certification preferred)
  • Expert knowledge of server hardware (Compute, Memory, Storage, etc.)
  • Expert knowledge of common enterprise services such as DNS, DHCP, PKI, RDS, etc. 
  • Expert with Active Directory
  • Experience with Cisco UCS computing preferred
  • Experience with various types of enterprise storage devices
  • Experience with various Cloud technologies – Microsoft Azure preferred
  • Proficient with PowerShell Scripting 
  • Windows MCSE or MCSA preferred
  • Network experience for troubleshooting purposes
  • Excellent people and communication skills, dealing with all levels of management and personnel
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Business Management, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 8+ years’ overall IT experience in progressively challenging roles
