Sr. Structural Designer - Retail Display & Packaging

The Job You Will Perform:

  • Develop designs for corrugated point-of-purchase displays. Have a basic understanding of alternative display materials such as metal, plastic, wood, etc.
  • Work with sales to determine client’s display/packaging needs and provide appropriate solutions.
  • Ensure that packaging and displays are designed efficiently, meet performance requirement, and compare favorably to competitor’s designs.
  • Prepare CAD drawings and specifications for the proper manufacturer of components.
  • Assist with resolving manufacturing problems and/or performance concerns.
  • Review and understand ship testing requirements. Ensure all designs fall within testing standards. 
  • Work with vendors to ensure tooling components are correct and check incoming quality conformance of cutting dies.
  • Communicate and collaborate with packaging designers within International Paper’s Retail enterprise as well as other areas of the company to optimize solutions and learn about new designs or techniques.
  • Participate in or lead design project teams as assigned.

 

The Skills You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Design or Engineering or related field preferred; strong portfolio required. 
  • Five or more years point-of-purchase experience strongly desired.  Must understand the entire design process from concept, prototype, and testing to production. 
  • Advanced knowledge of Artios/CAD applications and strong PC/computer skills. 3D modeling experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of cost systems to optimize profitability on display/packaging designs, knowledge of the production process, machine limitations, and production standards to ensure compatibility of design to production capabilities. 
  • Understanding of the testing processes for corrugated materials. Basic knowledge of automated packaging equipment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, including the ability to identify priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to remain flexible and accept/adapt to change in the creative environment.
  • Ability to provide leadership or follow instructions while working independently. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be enthusiastic, team-oriented, organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle pressure/stress and work overtime or irregular hours as needed to meet client needs.
