Production Superintendent

The Production Superintendent for International Paper’s Conway Enhanced Graphics Center is responsible for management in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement in the production departments with emphasis on the use of standard reliable methods and the development of such standards. 


Expected shift is night from 6PM to 3AM Monday thru Friday with ability to flex to other days/hours including weekends.


Key Functions: Key responsibilities for the Production Superintendent include but are not limited to the following functions.  Actively participate in the plant safety program. Maintain daily plant housekeeping standards by assuring the use of established procedures. Maintain high levels of product and service quality in the Press, Asitrade, Converting and Shipping departments through actively assisting in the development, implementation, use, auditing, and improvement of standard reliable methods and procedures. Ensure the effective management and development of the production work force through administration of the following processes and procedures:

  • Champions a safety first ensures that all IP safety and health reliable methods and federal and state OSHA requirements are in place and followed
  • Oversees all Supervisors and employees in the areas of safety, productivity, quality and housekeeping
  • Maintain daily plant housekeeping standards by ensuring the use of established procedures.
  • Leads and motivates employees to work efficiently, effectively and ensure a safe work environment and quality products
  • Lead and develop Production Supervisors to ensure they are overseeing training employees, planning and assigning work
  • Routinely audit non-peak time operations on evening and weekend shifts over the course of the year
  • Assist in the employee hiring process
  • Update and maintain production employee schedule
  • Help establish high morale within the plant by showing respect, dignity, fairness, consistency, and an interest in employee issues while maintaining confidentiality
  • Assist the Site Manager in identifying issues impacting the production department and ideas for resolution of such issues
  • Ensure compliance of all quality checks; coordinate upkeep of machine with Maintenance team to minimize downtime; assist in troubleshooting machine problems
  • Coordinate and troubleshoot new orders going through the plant
  • Improve cost savings, materials and product performance through routine vendor trials, audits and other continuous improvement activities
  • Manage and delegate responsibility amongst production lead team to order consumables, tooling and bulk raw materials for the operations



  • Five (5) to Ten (10) years of supervisory experience in manufacturing required.
  • Bachelors’ degree preferred.
  • Ability to function as an effective member of a team.
  • Ability to effectively work, communicate, and coordinate activities with other departments.
  • Ability to effectively lead and participate in structured problem solving activities.
  • Ability to deal effectively with different personality types and positions in the organization.
  • Excellent communication skills, planning, organization, time management, and delegation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills- conflict management, coaching, supportive feedback, and problem solving.
  • Strong mechanical and technical knowledge, preferably in the Litholam (printing) industry.
  • Ability to create reports, charts and graphs to analyze data and track performance
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word & PowerPoint skills
  • SAP order processing and work notification experience preferred
  • ISO, Six Sigma, or other process management/reliability system experience helpful
