Pay Rate:
$104,100-$127,300
Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range.
Variable pay may provide additional opportunities for financial awards. This job is eligible to participate in IP’s short –term incentive plan.

The Job You Will Perform:
The Process Control Engineer will be heavily involved in a broad spectrum of areas including operations, maintenance, technical, and people.
- Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results
- Develop tools and systems to maintain compliance with all applicable environmental permitting and ensure all environmental compliance systems are reliable and accurate (NCG, air, water, etc.)
- DCS Configuration, PLC Programming, HMI Programming, Process Networks, Instrument Sizing, Instrument Specifications
- Programmable Logic Controllers
- Develop, implement, and maintain control strategies that improve safety, profitability, and efficiency
- Trouble shoot control related
- Develop new control applications by utilizing emerging technologies
- Prepare and analyze process control metrics and utilize that data to lead continuous improvement efforts
- Build effective systems and materials such as operating procedures (SOP), troubleshooting documents (TCC), and other training materials
- Support engagement processes to ensure the crews have ownership and feel valued within the organization
- Coordinate within the Maintenance department and other business units to optimize area production to meet the needs of the department and the mill, including process balances as needed (e.g. upset conditions/outages)
- Seek out and implement best practices using teams, databases, vendors, and other technical resources
- Support the mill’s manufacturing work systems (MWS) process to prioritize and plan daily work, routine outages, and annual outages including operational, maintenance, and contractor tasks
- Serve as a contractor coordinator (owner’s rep) as required
- Participate in the 5S program for the area, including leading 5S improvement projects as needed
- Participate in cost reduction program idea generation and implementation process
- Provide support for capital project development and implementation
- Implement systems to improve/sustain results, including PI processbook pages, excel spreadsheet tools, Proficy based centerlining systems, etc.
- Provide support for budgeting cycle targeted at delivering year over year savings
- Fulfill weekend duty team leadership role for Maintenance, Engineering and/or the supported department
- Lead and sustain continual improvement on Manufacturing Excellence culture
The Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge You Will Bring:
- Minimum of three (3) years of post-college process control engineering experience in industrial manufacturing is required; experience in a fully integrated pulp and paper mill is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent practical experience is required.
- Must have experience designing and implementing basic to moderately complex automation strategies with distributed control systems (DCS, and programmable logic controllers (PLC).
- Must be proficient with modern computer programming and scripting languages, networking principles, and electronic communication protocols.
- Experience with process diagnostics and variability analysis, using tools such as OSI PI, Capstone Parcview, Aspen IP/21, MatLab, or BrainCube.Instill safety as a core value within the team and effectively communicate a shared vision for safety
- Quickly develop thorough knowledge of mill equipment and systems
- Utilize excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate to groups and individuals at all levels
- Approach positional responsibilities in an inclusive manner by engaging all team members in area, department, and mill
- Utilize the International Paper Change Process to drive change
- Possess Manufacturing Excellence (ME) certification of white or green belt
- Utilize strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks effectively
- Analyze problems and develop solutions independently or within a team
- Make timely and effective decisions
