The Job You Will Perform:

The Fiber Supply Scaler position is a combination role that ensures the quality of raw materials entering the Pensacola Mill. Safety is paramount - both personal, team safety, and the safety of visitors, as well as maintaining a safe work environment.

 

  • Primarily responsible for the safe, efficient, accurate, and timely processing of fiber receipts.
  • Ensure security. Maintain access control point and set flow of traffic into the mill.
  • Key Tasks: Scale wood products into facilities, Maintain Scaler exception log report, enforcement of material specifications and all safety standards, ensure Drivers are trained on unloading safety standards, daily/weekly scale weight checks, driver designated loop pass card program administration and managing Turn Around Time across various products.
  • Provide timely communications and assistance to the Fiber Supply Team.
  • Other responsibilities within the local Fiber Supply Team and/or Region teams. Possible activities include safety engagement/assessments and reconciling Scale receipts.
  • Serves as the first point of contact with truck drivers, vendors, and contractors. As such, the Fiber Supply Scaler is an important communication link in the wood supply chain, and at all times will conduct him/herself in a courteous and professional manner.

 

The Skills You Will Bring:

  • Minimum high school graduate or equivalent. Experience with truck scales, customer service, inventory management, knowledge of fiber specifications and species is preferred. Must demonstrate ability or potential to develop basic computer skills. Must be able to adapt to change, cope with different personalities and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of software applications.
  • Peer relationships (teammates, mill customer and suppliers).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written.

 

Position Responsibilities/ Accountabilities:

  • Safety – work safely; must always exhibit safe behaviors and adhere to all International Paper safety principles.
  • Is aware of and enforces all International Paper safety policies with truck drivers, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
  • Must wear all required PPE (personal protective equipment) and report all injuries and damage occurring to company and/or vendor property.
  • Demonstrate communications and team building dynamics which support the IP principles of Diversity, Dignity, and Respect.
  • Operate scales to safely, accurately, and efficiently process fiber and chemical receipts.
  • Security and Internal Control Practices related to fiber receipts.
  • Is aware of and enforces Pensacola Mill fiber specifications—minimum/maximum tree diameter, tree length, tree species, and trim specifications.
  • Conduct routine load audits.
  • Manage Truck Turnaround Time - Be aware of and communicate mill operations that may affect the efficiency of turnaround time & processing.
  • Coordinate load diversions with Wetyard Operators.
  • Must be able to work in adverse conditions such as rain, heat, cold and dust.
  • Perform or manage housekeeping functions at and around scalehouse including scale maintenance.
  • Assist in record retention management.
  • Assist with fiber inventory measurements.
  • Willing and able to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays. Must report on time.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Perform other duties as required.
