The Plant Converting Superintendent, reporting to the Process Improvement Manager, oversees the activities for all production operations of the Converting Department of a Box Plant.  Responsible for managing and maintaining processes including but not limited to throughput, cost and waste control, quality, and meeting budgeted production metrics. Ensures a safe and highly motivated workforce by providing leadership in safety and environmental efforts, positive employee relations and work systems development. Provide leadership to production Supervisor by applying high standards for selection, having processes and tools to develop and motivate talent and by assisting with the evaluation of processes and tools for continuous improvement.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Works with operating teams to understand and improve manufacturing systems;  
  • Maintains daily plant housekeeping standards by assuring the use of established procedures
  • Maintains high levels of product and service quality through actively assisting in the development, implementation, use, auditing, and improvement of standard reliable methods and procedures.
  • Ensures the effective management and development of Converting employees/crews and shifts.
  • Leads Converting Department meetings to assist in the planning of production and maintenance processes.
  • Utilizes employee involvement and empowerment principles to create teamwork and optimize utilization of resources.
  • Emphasizes use of manufacturing reliability tools to accomplish Converting Department Operating objectives in a 24/7 production environment
  • Ensures compliance with corporate quality systems; Provides follow-up on quality issues that arise.
  • Facilitates task teams to reduce performance gaps in safety, productivity, efficiency and other operational elements at the facility.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, mentoring to employees on engagement processes
  • Responsible for continued emphasis on work systems – solidify basic tools and lead the further development of high performance work teams.
  • Ensures that jobs stay within budget and steers investigations of situations that result in jobs with excessive costs.
  • Ensures that functioning programs are in place to drive continuous improvement,   this entails employee forums to participate in the continuous improvement process and manufacturing reliability system implementation.
  • Ensures compliance with all company safety policies and procedures
  • Consistently and effectively communicates with the PIM and other departments on plant issues

 

Knowledge and Experience:

 

Ten plus years of supervisory experience in corrugated manufacturing preferred. Bachelors degree preferred. Ability to function as an effective member of a team. Ability to effectively work, communicate, and coordinate activities with other departments. Ability to effectively lead and participate in structured problem solving activities. Ability to deal effectively with different types of people throughout the organization. Excellent communication skills - oral, written, listening, and presentations. Excellent planning, organizing, prioritizing, time management and delegation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills - conflict management, coaching, supportive feedback, and problem solving. Strong mechanical and technical knowledge.
