The Job You Will Perform:
The Quality Technical Assistant must deliver the highest levels of customer satisfaction through effective support of our quality management system, which includes the mill processes from stock prep through shipping for Containerboard and Gypsum papers. The Quality Technical Assistant must be a goal-oriented individual to deliver targeted results in the area of safety, quality results and customer satisfaction while supporting production goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the daily quality control and customer quality assurance activities
- Develop and implement quality programs including statistical process control
- Supervise product-testing protocol and procedures
- Analyze and response to customer complaints
- Provide analysis of complaints and quality trends and work to help develop and recommend improvements
- Demonstrate leadership in the area of safety; support and participate in the mill’s safety process
- Support expectations around Quality Managements Systems implementation and audit process to maintain system integrity
- Demonstrate the ability to partner with mill production teams to develop a proactive, positive relationship that drives the ownership and implementation of a world-class quality system throughout the mill.
- Able to make real time mill quality decisions that will ensure optimum field product performance. Ensure all departments completing minimum quality inspection requirements.
- Interface daily with operators in production to understand quality concerns and raise overall engagement.
- Demonstrate the ability to work with Memphis Quality Leaders ensuring Newport maintains a strong Customer-Supplier relationship. This includes Customer Technical Services (CTS), Supply Planning and Sales.
- Back up Quality and Customer Service Manager as needed.
- Focus on quality from the reel to the customer.
- Implement and audit standard work for paper testing.
- Train teams on new procedures/processes and be able to conduct refresher training as well.
- Be able to develop and participate in paper trials. Act as overall Finished Products Trial Coordinator.
- Participate in Quality Best Practices meetings
- Manage/Disposition of Held Inventory
- Back up for machine scheduling
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Individual must be able to wear all required safety equipment.
- Physically challenging mill environment: ability to move, ascend/descend stairs minimum 50% of the time
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Heat in excess of 100ºF, occasionally
- Working environment is 24/7 – ability to be on-call as needed and/or required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, or high school diploma with equivalent experience.
- 3 plus years of quality systems experience (Paper preferred)
