Purpose

Procure and coordinate the delivery of 315,000 tons ($60MM spend) of Recovered Fiber (DLK) for the Newport, IN mill to meet mill demand and inventory needs.  Aggressively manage the logistics supply chain in the Midwest region as well as the quality of incoming fiber at supplier locations to ensure a supply of fiber that will meet expectations for the finished product.  Manage third party sales of DLK recovered fiber from corrugated packaging plants, both internal and external.  Actively work with box plants to assure quality expectations, safe loading procedures and transportation requirements are met.

 

This position is responsible to assist in the development, negotiation, implementation and ongoing supplier management associated with recovered fiber purchases, safety requirements and quality program.  Responsibilities include development and implementation of initiatives that will maximize cost savings while providing safe, high quality fiber, and transportation services.  While this position is domiciled in Newport, IN, it has direct reporting responsibility to the DLK Manager in Memphis, TN.

 

Travel Expectations:  Up to 30% regional travel is expected.

 

Significant Responsibilities       

 

  • Work incident and injury free.  Say something and engage when you see any situation that may compromise this goal for any team member or contractor.
  • Negotiate with suppliers monthly; manage deliveries from multiple shipping locations, to ensure a reliable supply of recovered fiber into the Newport mill.
  • Ensure Purchase Orders are entered accurately and timely each month.
  • Actively manage and coordinate receipt and quality monitoring of fiber.
  • Engage with mill management frequently to ensure mill and fiber supply operations are jointly aligned and that demand and supply planning and inventory management functions are optimized to achieve lowest cost.
  • Manage inventories and deliveries to meet optimized operational and financial objectives for the enterprise.
  • Coordinate with Recovered Fiber team to optimize cost advantage fiber to our mill enterprise system.
  • Coordinate with Recycling team to optimize cost advantage fiber through our brokerage and recycling plant systems.
  • Ensure consistency in application of the quality program across all IP recovered fiber mills and identify any concerns or improvements in the application of the recovered fiber quality program.
  • Manage the GMS fiber sub-element for the Newport mill, successfully engaging the mill team tracking joint initiatives monthly.
  • Engage with NAC plant management to insure the successful quality and safety requirements are met to assure the successful sell and movement of DLK from the box plants.

  • Providing leadership for improvement initiatives by partnering with the mills, key supply chain stakeholders, NAC and the Recovered Fiber team, yielding a higher level of operational performance at a cost advantage.

 

 

Experience

 

  • 5+ years of experience in the paper industry with expertise in recycled paper sales or procurement preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly organized and self-driven
  • Demonstrated ability to meet project deadlines with minimum supervision
  • Analytical skills and proficiency with enterprise application suites (BW, SAP, Microsoft Excel and Share Point)
  • Ability to function as a team member in a high performance work system to accomplish overall objectives
  • BS/BA degree required
