ITSS Mill Application Dev Analyst

Purpose:

Responsible for performing the tasks associated with supporting the Mill Information Systems.  Analyst will work in a self-directed role providing development support of new applications and enhancements/maintenance of existing applications.

This position provides business and operational support for information technology solutions utilizing mill information systems & assets with a primary focus on continuous improvement of paper production quality and manufacturing cost optimization.  The analyst will be responsible for support, and implementation of new and existing enterprise/business/operational applications.  The analyst is expected to execute key tasks within a project plan and communicate/coordinate changes to all involved parties.  Key customers include plant operators and supervisors, technical and business groups, and mill management.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Development / support / administration of applications as required in accordance to corporate standards
  • Development / support of user applications as required across multiple mills by region.
  • Hands on point person for corporate IT/outside contractors for mill initiatives / support.
  • Responsive to off-hour support requirements.
  • Participate in recommendations and implement system improvements.
  • Maintain systems documentation.
  • Support disaster recovery plans for mill IT Systems.

The internal environment:

  • Will be required to spend time in the manufacturing environment and work around schedules when implementing and/or maintaining systems. Need to be sensitive to general computer competency levels of end users.  Additional time is generally needed for “hand holding” of end users on new applications that ordinarily would not be required.

 

Scope:

The work environment is a mill operation with various unit operations enabled by multiple applications (60+ per site). The applications enable operations 24 X7 X365. Support also includes Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity Plans for key mill processes.  Perform updates and maintenance of Mill IT applications as directed by ITSS.

Technical Competencies:

  • Knowledge of the client server systems at the mill and the plant floor integration aspect
  • Experience in web/Windows applications support for manufacturing
  • Application administration of OSIsoft PI, GE Plant Applications and other related tools
  • Strong background in Server/Personal Computer hardware and operating systems
  • Strong background in Networking and Security is a plus

           

Be able to perform Plant Application Administration tasks: 

  • Oversight of the Plant Model Hierarchy, Variables, Products, Specifications and Displays
  • View and interpret log files
  • Administer Security
  • Configuration Calculations (Direct, VBScript and Stored Procedures)
  • Manage Client, Application Server and Database interconnections
  • Support troubleshooting of client issues,  interfaces and data

 

Be able to perform PI Administration tasks:

  • Configure and manage all aspects of interfacing to systems on both side of the mill firewall
  • Understanding of data flow and inter-process communication within the system
  • View and interpret logs
  • Administer Security
  • Be a technical resource for the use of data visualization and data extraction tools/methods
  • Know how to decipher logic in performance equations, notifications and AF analytics
  • Support Pi Tag life-cycle and PI system data integrity
  • Implement and maintain Best Practices

 

 Be able to perform first level support of SQL Server:

  • Know how to view and examine SQL log files
  • Understand how to verify backups
  • Learn to troubleshooting database issues using Solarwinds DPA
  • Know how to monitor database growth
  • Comfortable with SQL Server Management Studio
  • Ability to understand database design and able to develop SQL queries to get accurate data from the system
  • Be the on-site hands-on support for DB Services for troubleshooting SQL Server issues

 

To support the MACT Environmental monitoring application:

  • Know how to install and configure the MACT Reporting client application
  • Know how to use the MACT Reporting system to schedule, print, and maintain daily reports
  • Know how to view the administrative displays
  • Understand the purpose and function of the various installed Watchdog monitors that insure good data collection
  • Know how to leverage the Watchdog events to maintain accurate data collection

 

Organizational Relationship:

Mill Application Analyst for mill site reports to MEAS regional team lead.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Information Systems or other related field preferred.
