Experienced E&I Maintenance Technician - CMF

This position supports International Paper’s Columbus Modified Fiber Plant (CMF), located in Columbus, Mississippi in Industrial Park (south of the Golden Triangle Airport).  CMF is a vital part of International Paper’s Global Cellulose Fibers Business.  We are a converting operation that produces specialty fibers used in the production of diapers and other absorbent personal care products.

Key Functions:

We're looking for a strong, in-depth electrical and instrumentation maintenance knowledge and practical application experience in areas such as:

  • General electrical systems and controls (motor starters, lighting circuits, power distribution equipment, industrial controls)
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (especially Rockwell Automation ControlLogix and PLC5)
  • Variable speed AC & DC drives, and motors
  • Process instrumentation and controls (transmitters, control valves, control loops, & DCS)
  • Process variable monitoring and control (temperature pressure, flow, pH, etc.)
  • Analytical process troubleshooting including electrical print reading and using troubleshooting manuals
  • Rigging and setting of heavy equipment and machinery
  • Installation and repair of hydraulic systems and components
  • Setting and alignment of large electrical motors
  • Troubleshooting skills including use of drawings, diagrams, and manuals
  • Preventive and predictive maintenance on critical equipment
     

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least age 18
  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience
  • Formal technical/trade school training (or equivalent experience) in electrical/instrumentation maintenance
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of electrical/instrumentation experience in a continuous process industry
  • Able to work safely in an industrial environment
  • Able to work around hazardous chemicals with appropriate personal protective equipment and training
  • Able to work flexible hours including weekends and shifts as business needs require
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic math and computer skills
  • Measurable mechanical aptitude
  • Motivated to develop career skills
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check

 
Physical, Dexterity, and Strength Requirements:  (with or without reasonable accommodation)

  • Able to lift/handle 50 pounds occasionally and 2 – 20 pounds regularly
  • Able to climb steps and ladders, enter small vessels, work from heights, turn large valves, stand or walk for 2 – 3 hours at a time for 10 – 12 hours, work in extreme temperatures (hot/cold) in a noisy environment while wearing all required personal protective equipment

 
Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Preference will be given to individuals with six (6) or more years of advanced electrical/instrumentation experience in a continuous process industry
  • Prefer industrial experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of medium voltage motor protectors, plant lighting systems, MCCs, GE unit substations, GE PowerVac Switchgear, and main power transformers
  • Prefer industrial experience with troubleshooting material handling systems, loop tuning, pH controls, stack emissions monitoring, and moisture and humidity controls
  • Prefer experience in the pulp and paper industry
  • Advanced education preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills a plus
  • Demonstrated success in an advanced work system
  • Demonstrated computer functionality
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Software
