The Job You Will Perform:

This position supports International Paper’s Columbus Modified Fiber Plant (CMF), located in Columbus, Mississippi.  CMF is a vital part of International Paper’s Global Cellulose Fibers Business.  We are a converting operation that produces specialty fibers used in the production of diapers and other absorbent personal care products.

 

This position reports to the Plant Maintenance Manager and supports the Maintenance organization as a technical resource for the Plant electrical systems.  The successful candidate will promote safety and excellence in all areas of influence and will have a desire and ability to work as a team player in a continuous process industry in a high-performance work environment.  This individual will maintain and improve process control functions within the mill including but are not limited to advanced troubleshooting of Electrical Motors, VFD’s, DCS, Power Distribution Systems, and a variety of field instruments.  Additional responsibilities include planning and executing work during plant outages and working as an IP Contractor Coordinator with various contractors.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Be a role model and champion for an injury-free workplace and promote safety and excellence in all areas of influence
  • Respond to Plant needs as they arise
  • Manage, troubleshoot, configure, and maintain Plant controls including Delta V and other PLC systems
  • Provide effective support for mill-wide EPD efforts
  • Assist in process/maintenance troubleshooting activities and RCFA investigations
  • Troubleshoot and/or repair AC and DC drives of various manufactures
  • Troubleshoot and/or maintain 575V through 2300V motors including induction, synchronous, wound rotor, permanent magnet, and DC
  • Calibrate and troubleshoot various manufactures of analog and SMART instruments and analytical equipment
  • Troubleshoot and maintain motor controls including electronic motor protection relays, sizing overloads, and starter maintenance of various manufactures
  • Shop-and-field repair of final control elements such as pneumatic valves, electric valves, solenoid operated valves
  • Calibrate pneumatic and SMART valve positioners
  • Troubleshoot and/or maintain various electrical components such as mechanical limit, proximity, photo electric, speed and reflective switches
  • Troubleshoot and maintain PLC systems including associated communication such as DH+, Modbus, Ethernet
  • Read, interpret, and redline wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, P&ID’s and loop sheets
  • Responsible for the ownership of alarm management activities
  • Understand and follow 70E regulations involving Arc Flash and Shock hazards
  • Actively share knowledge with E&I team members while troubleshooting various systems
  • Serve as IPCC during outages, PMO’s, and as needed
  • Develop and maintain good record-keeping systems in areas of responsibility
  • Other duties as assigned

 

The Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge You Will Bring:

  • Minimum of two (2+) years of process control and/or process engineering experience
  • Three (3) or more years industrial E&I maintenance experience
  • Strong technical knowledge in the fundamentals of controls engineering and control systems
  • Must possess high standards in the areas of safety, quality, ethics, craftsmanship, customer focus, and leadership skills
  • Skilled in maintenance and troubleshooting of E&I related equipment and process problems
  • Knowledge of key operating areas, PLCs AC & DC drives, analog and digital field instrumentation, and DCS equipment
  • Able to personally exhibit safety as a core value and effectively communicate a shared vision for safety
  • Able to develop knowledge of Plant operations processes, equipment, and systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to utilize the International Paper Change Process to drive change
  • Able to work effectively alone or within a team
  • Strong organization skills to handle multiple tasks effectively
  • Able to analyze problems and develop solutions independently or with teams
  • Able to make timely and effective decisions
