The Job You Will Perform:
The Shipping Lead reports directly to the Supervisor. The position will be responsible for all aspects of accurate inventory control to include shipping/receiving paperwork, inspections, and communication with drivers.
Responsibilities of the Position include:
- Works safe by knowing and following all established safety rules, policies, and guidelines.
- Works closely with customer service department, production planning, finishing, accounting and sales to ensure full customer satisfaction.
- Comply with this facility’s environmental policy and environmental management system.
- Compares identifying information and counts or measures incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
- Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
- Prepares shipping documents such as bills of lading and packing lists.
- Ensure accurate recording of received items in ERP inventory systems and assist in maintaining accurate inventory levels.
- Oversee the receiving process to ensure accurate and timely processing of incoming shipments.
- Identify areas for improvement in the receiving process and implementing best practices.
- Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments of materials.
- Inspects, accepts, and or rejects material received.
- Confers with production, sales, customer service, or common carrier personnel to expedite or trace missing or delayed shipments.
- Wraps, straps, or places material in envelopes, boxes, or other containers for shipment.
- Organizes goods/merchandise received into inventory.
- Inspects transportation vehicles and cargo containers upon arrival and departure.
- Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
- Determines methods of storage, identification and stock location, considering height and weight limits, turnover, floor or trailer loading capacities, and required space.
- Ensures proper weights of items shipped and shipping charges. Affixes correct labels on all items shipped.
- Moves or transports material or supplies to other departments, using hand or industrial trucks (Forklifts).
- Performs other duties as specified by the Supervisor.
- Perform housekeeping to SQF standard. Keep area clean and free of debris.
- Must be able to fulfill requirements listed in “General Requirements of All Production Employees”. **Heavy lifting over 50/lbs. must be done with assistance.
Job Description:
Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment: Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
Create out going Bill of Lading for customer pick-up, Full truck and LTL shipments.
Work with Supervisor to prepare pick plans in preparing outgoing and receiving incoming shipments.
Communicate with incoming truck drivers to process paperwork and conduct loading safely.
Communicates issues or changes in a timely manner to the appropriate parties.
Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages. Receives items into SAP program.
Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications. Affixes shipping labels and packing slips. Verify correct staging of item for future shipment.
Operate lift truck or use hand truck to move items from shipping-and-receiving platform to inventory areas.
Work with the Quality department to receive damaged or defective goods returned for quality inspections.
Conduct Safety Inspections and audits to maintain required company safety programs.
The Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge You Will Bring:
- Must have 3 years of experience in an industrial shipping & receiving department.
- Excellent computer skills and prior use of a shipping database program are required.
- Lift truck experience required.
