Recovery - Area Process Manager

The Recovery Area Manager position is a management position in the mill with fully integrated power and recovery operations. The position is primarily responsible for managing the evaporator and recovery process, as well as supporting the steam system, gas, raw water treatment, and electric power distribution to the mill.  The Recovery Area Process Manger’s role is to provide leadership to the recovery area operations team and operating shift crews to achieve the mill and Recovery Department objectives. The Recovery Area Process Manager is responsible for developing process improvement plans and implementing systems for continuous improvement, and for managing the Recovery Area team in a goal-oriented environment to deliver and exceed target results in the areas of safety, engagement, cost, reliability, and quality.  This position reports to the Utilities Superintendent.


Key Accountabilities

  • Assure a safe and highly motivated workforce by demonstrating leadership in safety and environmental efforts, by being a positive role model, by addressing safety issues and concerns.
  • Provide leadership, clear direction, and develop personal accountability to maintain a satisfactory work environment for all employees by providing fair and equal treatment of all reports in the department.
  • Manage the performance and development of salaried and hourly members by setting clear expectations and standards of performance and identifying and providing the necessary skill development training.
  • Coach, lead, support, and develop the department crew leaders, collectively as well as individually. 
  • Direct and lead all manufacturing activities in a manner that meets or exceeds performance and budget expectations.
  • Facilitate integrated action plans for productivity and cost goal attainment and select champions to lead individual integrated action plan items.
  • Continuously improve the operation by staying current with new technologies, sharing best practices, identifying non-value added elements and modeling continuous improvement.
  • Champion reliability improvements for recovery and evaporator area equipment and processes.
  • Support the goals and initiatives of all Businesses supported by the Mill.




Qualified candidates should possess knowledge of the recovery area operations and processes. This includes knowledge of maintenance management principles and should have the talent to secure, display, communicate, evaluate and analyze data. Candidates should understand the use of key metrics to help manage the overall operations. Candidates for this position must also possess a clear ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks and demonstrated ability to work with and lead teams to execute work based on standards and procedures. 




  • Associate Degree with a minimum of 10 years manufacturing experience or
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline with a minimum of three years of manufacturing experience (preferred)
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification in ME (preferred)
