Financial Compliance Analyst II

Purpose:

 

The Financial Compliance Analyst II is a key position reporting to the Sr Manager Financial Compliance & Controls.  Results are achieved through utilization of shared resources of the Global Financial Compliance team and implementation of financial policies, controls and directives to influence personnel and behaviors around the world.  As part of the Global Financial Compliance team, the Financial Compliance Analyst II is responsible for the monitoring and improvement activities related to IP’s comprehensive Internal Controls and Financial Policies framework, ensuring that efficient and effective financial policies, procedures and controls are in place.

The principal responsibilities of the Global Financial Compliance department are:

 

  • Creation, maintenance, standardization and implementation of Financial Policies, along with providing related guidance and training as required by Company personnel;
  • Setting the internal control framework for the Company’s financial processes, ensuring that the framework aligns with the Company’s risk tolerance profile, and monitoring the framework’s effectiveness & efficiency;
  • Oversight & management of the Company’s compliance with Sarbanes Oxley, including: the annual risk assessment, scoping, evaluations, analysis, documentation, reviews and Quarterly 302 compliance assessments;
  • Coordination and oversight of the Balance Sheet Review process;
  • Coordination and oversight of the Company’s Quarterly Representation (i.e. QR16) process;
  • Monitoring of Segregation of Duties and High Risk Sensitive Access for the primary ERP system (i.e. SAP) and other select high risk systems;
  • Managing the North America Fiber Security processes;

 

 Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Safety: Engage in safe work environment in order to support the company safety objectives and goals
  • Provide support/guidiance in the overall governance of the financial internal controls framework across the enterprise.
  • Lead monitoring of Segregation of Duties and High Risk Sensitive Access for the primary ERP system (i.e. SAP) to ensure proper resolution and any additional user access reviews as needed.
  • Lead and/or participate in new accounting standards or governance as issued.
  • Support monitoring of the company’s delegation of authority including but not limited to (1) updates as necessary, (2) review of business level changes, (3) consultation to remain compliant, and (4) training. Assist in finding innovative tools.
  • Support the continuous overall assessment of the internal control environment including finance and IT.
  • Analyze and structure complex financial and analytical information and concepts and clearly communicate to executive management.
  • Support the annual SOC-1 report review process, including taking responsibility for assigned SOC-1 reports including but not limited to: (1) following up on the status of reports, (2) reviewing reports, (2) following-up with process owners and/or the 3rd party providers as necessary, and (4) preparing summary reports of results.
  • Lead and/or participate in Balance Sheet Reviews, annual scoping efforts, follow-up on identified open issues, and prepare reports or findings. Assist in finding innovative tools to add value through continuous monitoring.
  • Lead and/or support the Global Financial Compliance team as enhancements are made throughout finance relating as it relates to the company’s internal control and policy environment.
  • Provide support to Global Financial Compliance team as needed:
    • Maintain reporting for annual Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) activities.
    • Partner with Internal Audit to leverage data of high risk areas.
    • Participate in the periodic Global SOX Business Coordinators meetings, and as directed, prepare and present relevant information during those meetings.
    • Participate in tasks, assignments, projects, and department & Company initiatives as may become necessary.

 

The Financial Compliance Analyst II interacts closely with the management of each area supported providing data driven results, process/control re-design support, and financial policy interpretations.

 

Knowledge and Experience:

 

Preferred candidate should have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or other business related area
  • 4-6 years of combined work experience across various disciplines including finance, accounting, business analysis, internal/external audit
  • Strong Internal Controls knowledge and experience (could be in the form of Internal Audit Experience)
  • Proven experience in researching and defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing analysis conclusions
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting and GAAP
  • Professional certifications – CPA, CIA or others that may be relevant to assigned responsibilities (preferred but no required)
  • Preferred working knowledge of SAP
  • Wiliness to learn applicable technology  (ACL, Tableau, Microsoft, Power Bi, etc)
  • Proficient use of Excel, Powerpoint, Word and Access
