Power Staff Engineer

 

Pay Rate:

$122,000-$162,600 per year

Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range.

The Job You Will Perform:

  • This position is a Subject Matter Expert in the Power Manufacturing Solutions Group in Manufacturing Technology and provides technical guidance and direction to our mill teams in their Power Plant areas.  Specific support and expertise includes boiler inspections, repairs, operation, and safety, unfired pressure vessel policy and care, capital project development, and response to emergent support requests. This support will be a combination of remote and travel to mill locations.  Expected travel is 50 - 70% and is more demanding during spring and fall outage seasons.  You will be expected to learn the specific types of Power equipment and processes in our IP mill system, and provide technical support for planned work and troubleshooting for problems. 
  • The candidate will be expected to know and apply the Recovery Boiler, Power Boiler, and Balance of Plant Policy Manuals.  This knowledge of policy will be used in audits and guidance to ensure these standards and procedures are in place for managing safety and reliability.  
  • This position will develop relationships at each mill in Power / Utilities areas to better understand the needs of the mill teams, processes, and equipment.  The candidate will use Safety Leadership Techniques that influence team members in a positive way.  This position requires someone that is a good communicator.  This includes mentoring and listening to operators and managers to understand the specific problems and needs for each mill.
  • Collaborate with other Power Manufacturing Solutions SMEs and Materials Technology SMEs in areas of policy application, best practices sharing, and technical solutions to Power area problems.
  • Understand the applicable codes governing boilers, unfired pressure vessels, power piping, such as ASME, NBIC, NFPA, and others, in order to provide sound direction for doing work the right way.  The candidate will know and ensure the application of IP policies and specifications that guide proper operation and maintenance of equipment and systems.  The candidate will gain understanding of the different types of boilers in the IP fleet, including details of design, construction, inspection, repair, operation, and circulation. 
  • This position requires someone who will develop relationships with Alliance Contractors in the areas of Boiler Repairs, Boiler Inspections, Non Destructive Testing, and major equipment OEMs. 

 

The Skills You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or extensive knowledge and work experience in Power area operation and maintenance.  The specific experience most preferred is in boiler design, fabrication, construction, materials, inspections, repairs, and operation. 
  • Strong Technical Communication skills, with knowledge of technical and engineering terms used in design, fabrication, installation, and repair of boiler components, pressure vessels, piping systems, pumps, and other Power Plant equipment. The candidate must be skilled at creating technical reports, including photos and descriptions of the observations, findings, data, and recommendations for ongoing or future actions. 
  • 10+ years’ experience in pulp and paper industry is a must, including knowledge of specific risks and hazards associated with recovery boilers and practices that ensure safety and reliability.
