Pay Rate:

$120,500-$160,700

Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range.

The Job You Will Perform:

  • The position is the senior most position responsible for enabling IP Business leadership and other key stakeholder’s ability to communicate IP’s sustainable product benefits and attributes to external customers regarding product sustainability, stewardship, regulatory requirements and for advancing IP positions as it relates to emerging market and regulatory product constituents of concerns. Placing products in the commercial marketplace requires complying with regulatory requirements and a thorough knowledge of the products, including life cycle attributes.  Key customers are external customers of International Paper’s Packaging and Global Cellulose Fibers businesses. 
  • Stakeholders may include internal groups including Legal, Government Relations, Global Sourcing, and Global Citizenship; external environmental non-governmental organizations who are influencers to policy makers, trade associations who assist in the development of policy and advocacy strategies for emerging initiatives, and state/federal regulators with an interest in product use, life cycle analysis, renewable attributes and sustainable environmental stewardship.
  • Product certifications attesting to the product regulatory, product safety, product sustainability and chemicals of concern status of our products.
  • Work with business and staff groups to develop and maintain information to support product certifications and product marketing claims.
  • Advocate and represent IP with customers and other third parties on topics related to this position. For example, participate in AF&PA Chemicals and Product Stewardship Subcommittee, NCASI task groups on Chemical Management and Health Effects, and Product Stewardship.
  • Product Stewardship position directly supports product regulatory compliance and product sales (current and potential) for all our NA businesses – consulting role only for EMEA Packaging. Position provides product regulatory governance for global businesses.. 
  • Over 14,000 product certifications are issued through ProdCert (IP’s internal system), annually for customers of our NA businesses. 
  • Establish and communicate product stewardship expectations to IP businesses, manufacturing sites and staff groups. 
  • Develop and implement processes and tools to support and promote product stewardship objectives as described in the Product Stewardship Performance Standard. For example, appropriate manufacturing processes, raw material supplier certifications and product testing programs.
  • Efficiently manage the ProdCert process to provide product certifications to external customers.
  • Identify, track and communicate information needed to support product certifications. 
  • Monitor and manage emerging issues related to product regulatory compliance, product safety, product sustainability and chemicals of concern in products.  
  • Provide company input on emerging product stewardship issues and pending regulations to AF&PA and NCASI to direct program planning activities and budget.  
  • This position resides within the Environment, Health, and Safety Center of Excellence (EHS COE) in Memphis, TN; however, work location is flexible and can be remote.

 

The Skills You Will Bring:

  • BS in engineering or science field and functional expertise in regulatory compliance (product or environmental), toxicology or paper manufacturing.  MS, preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation communication skills.  Able to present information clearly, concisely and with authority.  
  • Learning on the Fly: Able to seek, interpret and apply global product regulations for end uses such as consumer products, food contact packaging, medical devices, and cosmetics.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate at multiple levels in a complex global manufacturing organization.
  • Exhibits strong attention to detail.

  • Greater than ten years of experience in a business environment with knowledge of IP product offering, knowledge of both mill and converting site manufacturing processes, and knowledge and /or experience in collaborating with and leading multi-functional internal stakeholder teams is desirable. Excellent communication (written and oral) and advanced regulatory analysis and negotiation skills are required.
