TrueSight Management System Specialist

Purpose: 

 

This position is responsible for installing, configuring, testing, documentation, problem resolution and maintenance of the Event Management environment at International Paper.  This environment includes the BMC TrueSight suite of products including Application Visibility, Infrastructure Management, Capacity Optimization, and Data Integration. In addition, BMC uses additional supporting component technology such as apache tomcat, apache activeMQ, and redhat WildFly application servers.  Also included will be custom developed software components in several languages to provide additional features and functionality to users and monitoring support. The position provides infrastructure support and operational support and enhancements for end users of these applications.

 

Key customers are Information Technology Shared Service infrastructure and application service providers. 

 

The primary responsibilities include:

 

  • Building and configuring TrueSight environments under the direction of a team leader and with support of other team members.
  • Providing infrastructure support of the TrueSight environments.
  • Assisting with troubleshooting and problem resolution as first line support to service providers whose services are being monitored or are in the process of on-boarding with Event Management.
  • Maintain monitoring of the Event Management environment.  Look for ways to improve and automate ongoing support of the Event Management environment.
  • Using the appropriate development languages and toolsets develop and maintain custom software used to provide services to service providers, additional monitoring capabilities not provided by BMC, and internal utilities to enhance IP’s ability to utilize the BMC products.
  • Using appropriate toolsets for the job, provide integration capabilities between other monitoring tools and BMC TrueSight.
  • Using appropriate toolsets for the job, provide integration capabilities between the BMC TrueSight suite and other ITIL support tools being used at IP such as Computer Associates SDM and CMDB tools, Hewlett Packard IT Asset Management, The Application Portfolio Management tool and any other tools that end up needing to be integrated to provide full toolset automation of ITIL processes where possible.

 

 

 

Key Accountabilities of this position include:
 

  • Provide continuous and accurate monitoring of the enterprise by installing and supporting stable, secure, and recoverable Event Management environments.  Do this by developing an in-depth understanding of BMC TrueSight components and the environment at International Paper.
  • Build functional, supportable, and performant custom integrations and utilities by following standard group development practices. If new standards need to be developed use initiative to develop them.
  • Provide technology group monitoring onboarding of new service providers functionally and on schedule by working with other IT Groups to interface their systems and applications as required. Do this so that these groups are properly supported with the appropriate monitoring, alerting, and Service Level Agreements.
  • Provide timely responses to Service Desk tickets associated with both Request for Service and Incident or Problem issues in the Event Management Queue.
  • Assist and automate the management, availability, monitoring, and reporting of these systems through the Event Management System.  Do this by developing an expert level knowledge of the required toolsets and BMC TrueSight systems and supporting products.
  • Provide On-call support when and if needed for the Event Management Systems 24x7x365.  Do this by following group on-call procedures.
  • Work with project team members to complete project tasks as assigned.

 

 

Key Challenges:
 

  • Quickly learn the operating environment including security and recovery requirements of International Paper Company.
  • Quickly develop an in-depth understanding of the BMC TrueSight operations suite.
  • Develop an understanding of the organizational relationships within the Tech Services area.
  • Acquire an understanding of the vision and intent for Event Management in the context of service provider onboarding.
  • Successfully migrate acquisition applications into the existing infrastructures.
  • Develop an expert level in the tools and languages used for the Event Management environment.

 

 

Scope:

 

This position impacts Event Management of the majority of systems and applications used in International Paper.  Monitoring of system availability and the time to restore service is directly related to the quality of systems implemented.

 

 

Knowledge and Experience: 

 

  • Technical and/or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated use of programming languages C, Java, JavaScript
  • Knowledge and demonstrated use of HTML and CSS
  • Basic knowledge of databases including Oracle and SQL are preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with the following competencies; Action Oriented, Customer Focus, Learning on the Fly, Technical Learning, Problem Solving 


 

Organizational Relationship: 

This position reports to Matt Yokley, Manager, Event Management.

 


Comments: 

This position will require working with other technical service providers to implement and maintain monitoring of their product.
This position may require limited travel.
This position requires employees to be part of the team on-call rotation.
