The Job You Will Perform:

We currently have an opening for a Laboratory Technician Trainee at our Memphis Customer Commitment Center in Memphis, TN. This position is responsible for the testing and evaluation of paper and paperboard samples and corrugated packaging as requested by containerboard mills, manufacturing facilities and their direct customers.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Perform and assist in testing using various industry standards, including Technical Association of Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI), International Standard for Testing and Investigations (ISTA) and American Society for Testing Material (ASTM) test methods.
  • Analyze test data and compare results to specific quality standards.
  • Assist with customers prior to and/or after (as necessary) to discuss test/package testing details or results.
  • Participation in a wide variety of projects related to paper quality and package performance.
  • Perform shipping/receiving functions as required utilizing safe operation of Pallet Jack and train for operation of a Forklift.
  • Perform daily activities in compliance with documented safety requirements.
  • Routinely handle test materials weighing 50 lbs. or more.
  • Promote a safety conscience culture.
  • Safety champion on specific topics.
  • Setup, restack and repack packages for testing.
  • Perform lab demos as needed.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner using 5S principles.

The Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge You Will Bring:

  • College degree in a scientific discipline OR , equivalent previous lab or manufacturing experience preferred with special consideration to candidates with packaging degrees OR experience in the packaging industry.
  • Prior forklift exposure preferred.
  • Working knowledge of TAPPI, ISTA and ASTM procedures is preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
