Maintenance Lead



The Maintenance Lead position is responsible to Plant Management for the day-to-day safe operation of the Maintenance Department and the equipment in the plant.  The Maintenance Lead is able to demonstrate a complete understanding of the mechanical and electrical functions of all equipment, and displays a high degree of trouble-shooting ability.  Understands basic principles of corrugated, printing, litho applications, and gluing.  Maintenance Lead is capable of determining the need for, securing quotes, and scheduling contract Maintenance as required. Able to delegate machine PM responsibilities to crew members as able, to insure the most efficient PM operation possible.  Assures that downtime due to maintenance issues is minimized at all machine centers.  Responsible for assisting in run rate improvements, quality improvements and downtime elimination at all machine centers.  Responsible for all associated SAP paperwork, ARIBA parts inventory and ordering, reports, feedback, work order manipulation, and parts issuance and ordering.

  • Outstanding ability to listen to other team members to gather ideas about the best way to accomplish a task
  • Ability to work alternate shifts and weekends as needed
  • Strong ability to create a team environment, by involving team members in the decision process
  • Strong knowledge of SAP functionality, or the ability to learn these functions
  • Order parts, supplies, etc. as needed through SAP
  • Ability to find the “best” solution to any problem, and not always the “least cost” solution
  • Participate in or lead training sessions to insure the Maintenance Department is current on new technologies and techniques
  • Teach, train, and monitor SAP usage throughout the site as needed
  • Coordinate all HVAC functions for the site
  • Coordinate all special project functions within the North Kansas City Sheet Plant as needed
  • Must have outstanding electrical and mechanical qualities, pin-pointing exact cause of most break-downs in a timely manner distinguishing between mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Should have an outstanding working knowledge for trouble-shooting mechanical problems, knowing what the problem might involve, from knowing what parts are needed to how many mechanics are required to make repairs, and how long machine needs to be down.
  • Must have an outstanding working knowledge for trouble-shooting, PLC’s, ac/dc motor controls, drives and control voltage circuits.  Evaluate plants electrical needs, old or new equipment.  Have a strong familiarity with U/L (Underwriters Laboratories electrical requirements).  Must know how to use various meters (volt/amp, ohms), read and upgrade electrical schematics, use dial calipers, heat sensing and bearing analyzing equipment, know pneumatic and hydraulic systems, as well as be able to read related diagrams.  Must know and abide by NFPA-70E and ARC-flash regulations, as well as any International Paper guidelines that may exceed Federal safety regulations.
  • Demonstrates proper LOTT, MSK, anilox LOTT, PPE and all safety policies and has the willingness and knowledge to intervene when a co-worker does not use safety policies correctly.
  • Must be qualified to work with electrical panels up to and including 480 volts.
  • Must have completed all required safety and maintenance training and shows a willingness to acquire training on his/her time.  Must listen well and ask questions when in doubt.  Must be able and willing to train others and share their knowledge and experiences.
  • Must have excellent housekeeping, people, and team skills. Must be willing to better organize the maintenance department tools, cabinets, miscellaneous fasteners and tooling as needed with the help of his fellow employees.
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for all work orders/jobs.  Always eager to get the machines up and running.
  • Willingly works weekends, holidays and fills in when needed.
  • Employee will need computer skills to work in SAP to acquire notifications, work orders, requisition parts for work orders, and enter their time against these work orders.
  • All other duties as assigned
