PURPOSE

Responsible to lead and guide the overall performance and supervision of the utilities / power equipment and to ensure the equipment performs in a reliable and cost effective manner.  The individual must support and exemplify the vision and organizational values of international Paper and the Flint River Mill.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The key accountabilities listed below are not to be considered all-inclusive; a team member may be required to perform additional tasks, as directed, and based on changing business needs of the company.

  • Manage the safety, environmental, people, operational and reliability performance of the Utilities / Power Department.
  • Interface with other operating departments frequently to ensure operational stability across the mill. 
  • Investigate and implement process improvements.
  • Support other leaders as necessary with the business unit.
  • Drive the reliability culture within the department.
  • Work with the Operations Maintenance Coordinator (OMC) to set Manufacturing Work Systems (MWS) priorities and achieve MWS metrics for the area. 
  • Provide support on project management and / or outage management during weekly / annual outages.
  • Coordinate multiple contractors as required.
  • Provide strategic direction for capital and technical resources.
  • Support development of capital projects.
  • Participate in capital planning and prioritization for the area.
  • Communicate progress toward achieving goals, as defined in the deparment’s scorecard, throughout the organization.
  • Set clear expectations and ensure individual accountability.
  • Create an environment where excellence is standard.
  • Foster team member inclusion through frequent communications of deparment / mill progress as well as specific, engaging assignments aimed futhering results of the department and the mill.
  • Establish training expectations and certification requirements for the area.
  • Key leader / champion of work systems based operational and training functions.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  1. Must be able to wear all required safety equipment.
  2. Noise levels in excess of 90 dB.
  3. Heat in excess of 100°F occasionally.
  4. Walking around on a frequent.basis.
  5. Climbing stairs / ladders.
  6. Abililty to work in a confined space.
  7. Ability to work at heights.
     
    KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering related discipline is required or equivalent work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of four (4) + years of operations / maintenance experience in power, recovery, or equivalent areas (turbines, feedwater, air compressors).
  • Knowledge of environmental impacts of power equipment and processes.
  • Experience in the pulp and paper Industry is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written).
  • Strong technical foundation in mechanical, chemical or electrical engineering.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiar with Auto CAD and SAP or similar systems.
  • High level of initiative and motivation.
  • Able to excel with minimum supervision and work independently.
  • Desire and ability to work as a team player.
