Process Control Engineer

Position/Title:   Process Control Engineer

 

 

Reports To:   Process Control Manager

 

 

Job Description

 

The Process Control Engineer maintains and improves process control functions within the mill. The individual will support, develop, coordinate, and/or lead activities that will meet manufacturing and cost requirements for mill processes and projects. The individual must support and exemplify the vision and organizational values of International Paper and the Orange Mill.

 

Key Accountabilities

 

  • Lead by example and coach safety to others.
  • Oversee maintenance of process control systems.
  • Manage control systems hardware and software design, reliability and performance.
  • Work toward cross-training with the control systems in other mill areas.
  • Work toward process optimization through development of new control strategies.
  • Work toward process optimization through participation in the IEPM (Instrument and Electrical Precision Maintenance) process.
  • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance to mill personnel as needed.
  • Be available to assist or lead E/I Technicians in analyzing, troubleshooting, and repair of failed controls and instrumentation.
  • Gather information, analyze, and communicate analysis of mill systems and equipment with the intent to improve understanding, improve efficiencies, reduce costs, or improve throughput.
  • Participate in project development, approval, implementation, and management as needed.
  • Understand and meet internal and external customer requirements while maintaining good communication between all parties.
  • Actively develop and maintain good team relationships. Treat others with dignity and respect.
  • Develop and maintain good record keeping systems.
  • Be available to work weekend/night duty as required.
  • Be available after hours to provide technical and leadership assistance, including startups.
  • Keep management informed on activities and accomplishments.

 

 

Preferred Requirements

  • BS in related Engineering Discipline or Equivalent Experience
  • 8 or more years Process Control experience
  • Strong technical knowledge in the fundamentals of controls engineering and controls systems.
  • Basic knowledge of the various types of pressure, level, temperature, and flow instrumentation.

 

Preferred

  • Skilled in control algorithm implementation for Honeywell TDC 2000/3000 DCS preferred.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC hardware/software preferred.
  • Familiarity with SAP systems a plus.
  • Familiarity with Foxboro I/A systems a plus.
