Job Title

Transportation Lead

Reports to

Plant Superintendent/Operations Manager

Job Purpose

To ensure safety and transportation expectations are met through compliance of policies and processes for production/transportation

 

Umbrella responsibilities of all employees

  • Assist and support implementation of EHS initiatives and strategies to reduce risk including but not limited to the areas of: OSHA, ergonomics, injury / illness reduction, hazard communication, environmental, emergency preparedness, and general employee safety
  • Supports LIFE areas, Safety Leading Indicators and Global Program Elements
  • Ensures a clean and safe work environment
  • Adhering to Plant policies and guidelines
  • Working safely and looking out for the safety of those around them
  • Ensure safety and transportation expectations are met
  • Meet the needs of our customers by providing excellent service
  • Manage needed plant documentation and DOT requirements

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule, direct and coach Trucking team members as needed to achieve Plant safety and production objectives
  • Cover daily toolbox topics
  • Schedule trucks & trailers for service / repairs
  • Work with Finance Specialist for PO’s related to trucking department
  • Schedule daily pickups and work with dock to ensure trailers are loaded with equipment as needed
  • Random DOT drug testing
  • Drive as needed to cover vacations and / or illness
  • Monitor overtime and efficiencies in the trucking department and route accordingly
  • Establish and communicate to drive team members job performance requirements and minimum standards for safety and productivity;
  • Ensure all drive team members are knowledgeable of Plant safety policies and procedures
  • Monitor driver daily logs, VCR’s, and driver hours for accuracy.
  • Follow all Federal, State, and local D.O.T regulations.
  • Track and schedule Truck, and Trailer Federal Inspections.
  • Maintain all equipment maintenance files.
  • Manage and maintain VMO & DMO
  • Respond to customer requests for scheduling and delivery
  • Assist with scale as needed
  • Spot inspect tractors for cleanliness and perform random ride a longs
  • Other duties as assigned

Information collected and exchanged

  • Communicate with Shipping, and receiving on equipment needs.
  • Communicate with Plant Supervisor on trucking needs.
  • Communication with drivers on account issues, equipment issues.
  • Communication with customers/Account managers (Missed pickup, delayed pickups)

 

 

Training/Registration/License/Certification requirement

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Satisfactory background check
  • Ability to effectively read/write/speak English and interpret written documents
  • Expert knowledge of shipping processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of Traffic Dept. processes
  • Strong computer skills; ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to work with internal and external customers
