Pay Rate:
$107,680 - $148,100
Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range.
Variable pay may provide additional opportunities for financial awards. This job is eligible to participate in IP’s short –term incentive plan.

The Rome Mill is seeking an Area Process Manager, Utilities to Direct and supervise the day-to-day operation of the Power and Recovery areas, supported with systems and structures. Coordinate daily maintenance and all maintenance outages including monthly and annual maintenance outages. Assist the Utilities Business Unit Manager in the overall operations. The end results should include: a safe, well-run operation, a trained, engaged work force, controlled costs, and maintained equipment.
The Job You Will Perform:
- Set and maintain high standards in Safety. Actively lead by example by being a visible presence in your areas of responsibility. Provide feedback through daily conversations and 1:1. Work with OMC to manage prioritized safety WO backlog for your area of responsibility. Attend safety meetings and assist OMC in managing list of crew issues and providing timely feedback. Review and approve revision to lock out tag out documents. Address areas of concern. Hold operators accountable for safety.
- Set and maintain high standards in housekeeping. Establish standards and specific expectations and make frequent inspections. Hold operators accountable for housekeeping.
- Work with OMC in coordination of day-to-day maintenance activities and manage a prioritized daily and outage work order backlog. Communicate with maintenance supervision, make rounds on equipment, and write work orders. Actively participate in troubleshooting and the RCFA process. Responsible for completion of RCFA action items and tracking results. Schedule maintenance in a cost-effective way that supports the operation of the Pulp Mill, Lime Kiln, Recycle Plant, and Woodyard areas.
- Direct and supervise the day-to-day operation and crews of the area(s) as assigned.
- Schedule and plan monthly and annual maintenance outages. Communicate with other departments and with management as to their outage schedule and production running schedule.
- Responsible for the successful planning and execution of all capital projects.
- Responsible for cost control of all aspects of the department. Monitor and control operating labor (overtime) by managing vacation, holiday, and shutdown schedules. Monitor and control maintenance dollars in the department by working with OMC and maintenance team scheduling routine maintenance thereby reducing unscheduled downtime as a result of equipment failure. Control energy and chemical costs.
- Responsible for demonstrating improvement in production, reliability, availability and quality above historical limits.
- Technical support – Must be capable to provide technical knowledge to resolve operational problems for the Utilities manufacturing systems.
- Implement processes and equipment changes utilizing a MOC process that not only improve Utilities quality parameters and/or reduce operating cost, but also fosters an inclusive culture.
- Educate, reinforce and document work practices of operators and maintenance staff of Utilities systems to the IP Orange Book Standards.
- Develop operating crewmember’s capabilities in the manufacturing process using engagement skills.
- Effective coaching skills required.
- Address administrative/personnel issues as needed.
- Self-Development – Take advantage of training opportunities and developmental assignments by personal initiative.
- Build and own an integrated action plan for areas of responsibility.

The Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge You Will Bring:
- BS in Engineering or other related field of study, or high school diploma with equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years related experience. Pulp/Paper experience preferred.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a leadership position.
- Experience in coordinating and scheduling shutdowns and supervising people.
