The Job You Will Perform:

International Paper’s Containerboard (CB) division has an opportunity to reimagine our approach to hourly retention and recruitment to build a diverse and skilled workforce.  This can be accomplished by identifying dedicated resources focusing on building local relationships and developing sustainable pipelines of talent, then documenting those processes and educating others on how to replicate them in different geographies.  This hands-on role will support the execution of a recruitment and retention strategy for a diverse and skilled workforce by collaborating with mill HR and manufacturing teams at a local level and other internal teams across businesses and functions.

The location of the position is Savannah, GA.   The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for the Savannah Mill, and presence on-site will be required approximately 60% of the time.  Additionally, in support of other IP locations and initiatives, the successful candidate must have easy access to an airport and willingness to travel approximately 25% - 35% of the time.

 

Reporting to the Retention and Recruitment Manager – CB, the successful candidate will:  

  • Support deliberate and continuous improvement efforts in the retention and recruitment strategy to build a diverse and skilled workforce for CB manufacturing in alignment with Vision 2030 goals
  • Facilitate the process to identify, prioritize, plan, track, and sustain deliberate improvement initiatives and identify gaps of local recruitment, hiring, onboarding and training efforts  
  • Provide support to selected manufacturing facilities in the hiring of production and maintenance candidates, making measurable improvements in the areas of retention and recruitment by collaborating with facility HR and local manufacturing teams
  • Support the growth of a sustainable talent pipeline through local relationship building with: 
    • Community colleges, technical schools, and high schools  
    • Non-profit organizations, community events, and diversity organizations
  • Utilize data from Tableau and SAP, and local maintenance and production headcount needs to optimize recruitment and retention and reduce vacancies  
  • Evaluate and champion recruitment processes, tools, resources, and best practices to replicate in different geographies 
  • Research the shifting needs of diverse talent pipelines and industry best practice
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition, GMTI, and recruitment resources supporting other IP businesses for purposes of alignment and best practices 
  • Represent the CB manufacturing business in various recruitment and retention initiatives

 

 

The Skills You Will Bring:

  • 3-5 years Human Resources experience with demonstrated leadership potential
  • Bachelor of Science degree in human resources, business, or a related field required 
    • Human resources experience (in a manufacturing facility) is preferred
    • Workforce development, community relations, project management, change management, and / or work-based learning program management experience a plus
  • Flexibility as it relates to work hours, work location during the week, and the ability and willingness to travel as necessary based on priorities
  • Experience with talent acquisition / recruitment of manufacturing employees is preferred (strategy development, use of data, relationship building, and improving hiring processes)
  • Experience with continuous improvement concepts and tools is preferred 
  • Proficient in computer applications (including MS Office – Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)  
  • Highly effective written and oral communication skills 
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local equal employment opportunity laws and regulations.  Experience with community economic development (CED) is preferred
