Utilities Operator- Power or Chemical

International Paper, Savannah Mill, a major pulp and paper producer is seeking its next generation of top operators in the Utilities department lines of progressions - Power or Chemical Operators.  The responsibility of both the Power Plant Operator and the Chemical Plant Operator is to work with the Utilities Operating team in achieving goals related to safety, environmental compliance and reliability. Our Utilities Operator’s average salary is $85,000 per year.

  • Minimum High School Degree, GED or equivalent work experience is required
    • Minimum 5 years' relevant work experience (industrial or manufacturing) in lieu of High School Degree/GED is required
  • Personal accountability for working safely
  • Ability to effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise
  • Basic mechanical ability
  • Demonstrate integrity and operate ethically
  • Flexibility in regard to scheduling (weekends, overtime, rotating shifts)
  • Drive for success and advancement within the company
  • Aptitude to learn new skills and seek further work opportunities
  • Wear and maintain all safety equipment properly
  • Submit to periodic drug screens as a condition of employment
  • Operate or work in industrial conditions following proper safety training and safety protection.  The areas may be (warm/hot, dusty/dirty, around hazardous chemicals, noisy, heavy machinery or elevated working surfaces).   
  • Participate on the HEAT (in house emergency response team)


All jobs work a rotating 12 hour shift schedule. During a four-week cycle, each team has four night shifts, three days off, three day shifts, one day off, three night shifts, three days off, four day shifts, seven days off. 

  • 4 Night Shifts - 3 days off, 3 Day Shifts - 1 day off, 3 Night Shift - 3 days off, 4 Day Shifts - 7 days off
  • Day Shift= 6:15am-6:15pm
  • Night Shift=6:15pm-6:15am


Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.  Employees will be required to work holidays, overtime and weekends on a regular basis with last minute notification. May be required to change shifts and work off days if necessary.
