Manufacturing Excellence Process Engineer

The Riverdale Mill is currently seeking a Manufacturing Excellence Process Engineer. 

 

Position Scope:

Riverdale Mill, located in Selma AL, is a complex, fully integrated pulp and paper manufacturing facility with two machines, one producing Brite Top liner and one producing uncoated free sheet.  In addition to the machines, the mill includes multiple process lines, including wood handling, pulping and OCC, power and recovery, sheeting operations and effluent treatment. The Manufacturing Excellence (ME) Process Engineer is a technical resource in the Manufacturing Excellence department, which supports efficient operation across all areas of the mill.  Specifically, the   ME engineer is tasked with using Lean tools (DMAIC, six sigma, mistake proofing, waste reduction, 5S, etc.) and other skills to identify and implement improvements within and area or across areas.  Improvements can be in multiple disciplines (chemical, mechanical, electrical, etc.) or categories (safety, environmental, energy, reliability, etc.).  The position works in a centralized ME team, and reports to the Area Manufacturing Excellence Leader.

 

 

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results
  • Personally develop ME skills, as well as train and develop others in their effective use
  • Lead ME based improvement initiatives within the department and mill to improve safety, reliability, efficiency and/or quality issues
  • Identify and implement cost reduction strategies that reduce the cost of ownership
  • Implement work systems to improve/sustain results
  • Engage business unit and other team members throughout the process to ensure department and mill objectives are addressed, and buy-in is achieved to ensure sustainability of improvement efforts
  • Meet and/or exceed financial and timeline objectives, including start-up and operation at or above project goals
  • Manage multiple projects at any given time
  • Lead 5S efforts for an area and drive improvement projects, audit systems, and excellent results
  • Provide support for budgeting cycle targeted at delivering year over year savings
  • Perform troubleshooting and/or de-bottlenecking of existing facilities to optimize production
  • Develop Process Book and other process analysis tools to increase visibility to process exceptions/efficiency
  • Willing to work weekends and extra hours on shutdowns to support department or area needs
  • Fulfill weekend duty team leadership role for Operations or assigned Business Units.

Required Experience:

Zero (0) to seven (7) years post college experience required with process engineering experience preferred.   Manufacturing internship and/or co-op experience highly preferred.  Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Paper Science, Environmental Engineering, and Occupational Safety and Industrial Hygiene) is required.  Strong desire to work in heavy manufacturing setting.  Experience working in a fully integrated paper mill is a plus.

 

Pay Level (PL) may vary depending on experience.
