The Riverdale Mill is a complex, fully integrated pulp and paper manufacturing facility with two paper machines. The mill includes multiple process lines of wood handling, pulping, power and recovery, and effluent treatment. The scope of the position includes implementing, coordinating, maintaining, monitoring, and improving the progress of safety programs. The position works within the EHS&S group and reports to the Health and Safety Manager
The Job You Will Perform:
The Safety Specialist duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Act as the primary internal point of contact for contractor oversight and the execution of key safety initiatives.
- Lead environmental, health, and safety (EHS) efforts by managing and advancing safety-related work orders.
- Support investigations of workplace incidents by assisting in root cause analyses and follow-up actions.
- Support corporate audit processes and oversee the execution of corrective action plans.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and corporate regulations through proactive alignment initiatives.
- Provide direction and subject matter expertise to hourly and salaried personnel to ensure adherence to federal regulations and corporate standards.
- Contribute to the delivery of comprehensive safety training programs for both staff and leadership teams.

- Approach responsibilities in an inclusive manner by engaging all team members in area, department, and mill
- Utilize the International Paper Change Process to drive change

- Utilize strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks effectively
- Maintain process knowledge and understanding of EHS&S operations, regulatory requirements and systems
- Make timely and effective decisions
The Skills You Will Bring:
- Demonstrated computer skills, with a high level of comfort in Microsoft Office, specifically, Word, Excel and Power Point, SAP business systems, and other databases. Experience with SharePoint a plus.
