Area Process Manager – Power and Recovery
Springfield, OR
Salary Range: $105,300-$140,400
The Job You Will Perform:
The Power and Recovery Area Manager is responsible for the overall leadership of the Power and Recovery area at the Springfield, Oregon paper mill. The successful candidate will have knowledge of power and recovery operations including boilers, evaporators, steam header operations, turbine generator, and air systems. Candidate must be a strong safety advocate and lead their team in achieving safety excellence. Candidates should also be well versed in operator training processes. Position will have on-call responsibilities that involve other areas in the mill and will report to the Recovery Business Unit Manager.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results
- Develop tools and systems to maintain compliance with all applicable environmental permitting and ensure all environmental compliance systems are reliable and accurate (NCG, air, water, etc)
- Drive engagement to ensure the crews have ownership and feel valued within the organization
- Build effective systems and materials such as operating procedures, troubleshooting documents, and other training materials
- Own the manufacturing work systems (MWS) process to prioritize and plan daily work, routine outages, and annual outages including operational, maintenance, and contractor tasks.
- Seek out and implement best practices using teams, databases, vendors, and other technical resources
- Lead training processes in alignment with GMTI to ensure a team of highly skilled members
- Participate in cost reduction program idea generation and implementation process
- Lead by example and ensure acceptable work practices and all company mandated policy requirements are being followed
- Provide leadership to troubleshoot operating issues with recovery and power boilers, evaporators, turbine ops, and air and feedwater systems
- Support other salaried staff including Operations Maintenance Coordinator, Technical Assistant, and Process Engineer
- Sets expectations for hourly team member operational performance
- Ensure reliability plans for major area equipment rebuilds are met
- Develop and support area capital planning to allow the department to meet reliability and cost reduction targets
- Assist with developing yearly budget for recovery operating department
- Drive 5S activities in the area, including leading 5s improvement projects as needed
The Skills You Will Bring:

- BS Degree in Engineering preferred
- Minimum 5 years related experience in Power and Recovery businesses
- Strong commitment to safety in all aspects of business operations
- Strong interpersonal leadership skills and ability to motivate others
- Technical problem solving skills
- Ability to manage teams and projects
- Good written and verbal communications skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project)
