Environmental Air Engineer

 

Pay Rate:

$75,800 - $115,700

Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills, and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay/PL range.

Variable pay may provide additional opportunities for financial awards. This job is eligible to participate in IP’s short–term incentive plan.

The Job You Will Perform:

 

The Environmental Air Engineer is responsible for the overall air environmental quality management at the Springfield, Oregon paper mill. This position reports directly to the Environmental, Health & Safety Manager and supports them by:

 

  • Develop and maintain environmental systems to drive sustainable performance
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state environmental regulations for air quality
  • Manage the performance of air quality-related work efforts, which include the oversight of NSPS, MACT, and Title V programs. Complete all required air reporting
  • Interface with regulatory agencies, including LRAPA and DEQ, to ensure the understanding of and compliance with all applicable environmental regulations and requirements
  • Maintain continuous environmental monitoring systems (CEMS) to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Coordinate and serve as the International Paper Contract Coordinator (IPCC) for required stack testing
  • Interface with operation departments to communicate and define their role in the execution of their environmental accountabilities.
  • Lead greenhouse gas reduction initiatives.
  • Support capital projects related to improving the mill’s environmental and safety performance
  • Support other EHS areas, including wastewater, stormwater, solid waste, process lab, health, and safety management
  • Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results
  • Update mill-specific environmental training materials and manage training activities in consultation with the mill training coordinator
  • Manage community feedback
  • Assist department and mill personnel, as assigned by the EHS&S manager, to complete priority objectives
  • Consistently function to improve the mill’s long-term profitability, high levels of safety performance, and good community relations
  • Oversee budgeting costs associated with contractor/consultant work products

Qualifications include:

 

Candidate’s mix of formal education, professional training and qualification, and relevant industrial experience will be considered as it relates to the qualifications below:

 

  • BS Degree in Engineering
  • 1 to 5 years of experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety preferred
  • Paper mill experience considered a plus
  • Strong commitment to safety in all aspects of business operations
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations applicable to industrial dischargers
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality assurance practices
  • Knowledge of key WWTS equipment and the principles of biological wastewater treatment a plus
  • Knowledge of Air Pollution Controls and CEMS/COMS a plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, particularly Excel
