Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range.

 

Variable pay may provide additional opportunities for financial awards. This job is eligible to participate in IP’s short –term incentive plan.

The Job You Will Perform:

At the Vicksburg Mill, the Front Line Leader is responsible for supervising and leading all aspects of shift operations for approximately 20 team members in the Pulp, Caustic and Woodyard operational areas. The intent of this position is to develop future shift front line leaders by providing opportunities to flex as needed to cover salaried leadership vacancies, as well as gain experience and exposure to things like special projects when not covering vacancies. The main objective for this role will be to support operating needs so that the team achieves department and mill objectives and facilitates sound business decisions. The Front Line Leader (FLL) – Fibers is accountable for the daily coordination of available mill resources to ensure continuity of mill operations, working closely with the all levels of management across the mill to coordinate safely making tons. Successful candidates should be self-motivated and display initiative by identifying and completing tasks. The position level for the Shift Leader can range between 11 and 13, commensurate with experience

 

Key Accountabilities:

The primary focus for the Front Line Leader (FLL) - Fibers is to ensure the productivity and performance of the operating team in each of these key areas:

  • Safety— The Front Line Leader (FLL) - Fibers demonstrates safety leadership, setting the highest standard for safety and holding all team members accountable to it. The Front Line Leader is responsible for correcting unsafe behaviors and conditions, driving a culture of safety with team members, conducting incident investigations, and completing safety observations.
  • Operations— The Front Line Leader (FLL) - Fibers manages daily shift operations of the Pulp, Caustic and Woodyard operational areas with a focus on reliable operation. The Front Line Leader is responsible for meeting and exceeding established production goals by supporting routine and annual outages, driving completion of equipment care rounds and identification of reliability issues, coordinating shift maintenance and other resources to address reliability issues.
  • Communication— The Front Line Leader (FLL) - Fibers actively communicates within the department, across the mill, and with all levels of the organization. The Front Line Leader must coordinate and communicate within the department with the Pulp, Caustic and Woodyard operational areas, creating alignment with the operating strategies and goals of the Pulp, Caustic and Woodyard operational areas Area Process Managers and the Pulp Business Unit Manager; hold monthly crew meetings, effectively communicate and plan production with all departments (Paper Machine and Shipping). When necessary the Front Line Leader will alert appropriate people of downtime and other operating issues, support the crews’ communication with other departments, assist in calling in and coordinating resources to address upsets, or to fill vacancies.
  • Continuous Improvement— The Front Line Leader (FLL) - Fibers creates a culture of continuous improvement on shift. The Front Line Leader is responsible for harnessing the experience and creativity of all team members to improve the equipment, the workplace, and the process to

achieve year-over-year improvement; capturing improvement ideas in the DRIVE system for further consideration and development; leading on-shift improvement initiatives.

  • Team Development and Engagement— The Front Line Leader (FLL) - Fibers is a team builderand a performance coach when filling vacancies. The Front Line Leader will enhance employee engagement by providing leadership and direction to the shift, insure implementation of individual team member training programs in coordination with the Learning Leaders, assign responsibility for tasks and decisions amongst the crew, give specific recognition and feedback for each team member; complete area engagement plans, listen and respond to employee issues, insure personnel issues on crew are addressed.

 

The Skills You Will Bring:

  • Two or more years experience in manufacturing is required, with experience in either Pulp or Power operations.
  • The qualified candidate will be a self-starter and have the ability to set expectations and motivate Top Operators and their crews toward meeting mill and department objectives. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills are vital to this position.
  • The individual selected will be required to complete the First Line Leader Proficiency curriculum, which includes attending future sessions of IP Leadership I and First Line Leader classes and completing ME White Belt certification.
