This position reports to the Finished Products Business Unit Manager in Valliant, Oklahoma.  Valliant is a 5,000+ ton per day containerboard mill with 3 paper machines, 3 continuous digesters, 3 secondary fiber plants and a utilities/chemical recovery complex.  It currently operates with 350+ mill employees and 150 contract maintenance employees in a results oriented environment.


Key Functions:


The Area Process Manager is responsible for the leadership and coordination of the day-to-day operations for the Paper Machine area, including such issues as safety, quality, waste, productivity, maintenance and housekeeping.


Position Responsibilities:


  • Provide general supervision for production and other related functions
  • Administer established policies and procedures in managing operating detail
  • Manage aspects of the safety program
  • Conduct or participate in area operations meetings to plan and regularly review workflow priorities and status of work in progress
  • Manage daily plant operational issues
  • Maintain high levels of product and service quality
  • Maintain housekeeping standards by utilizing established procedures
  • Provide input and coordinate the development of production and maintenance scheduling
  • Manage hourly vacations and training
  • Participate in the development of capital and project spending plans and activities
  • Stay informed of issues in the plant and ensure effective resolution of identified issues and needs.


Required Qualifications:


  • Technical education consisting of BS or higher in chemical or mechanical engineering, pulp and paper technology, or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in pulp and paper.
  • Active participation in safety, labor relations, problem solving and other committee/team activities. 
  • Hands-on experience in education/training, maintenance planning and scheduling with high degree of computer skills. 
  • Direct involvement with customer service related to product and service.



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated leadership skills combined with technical knowledge and operations experience in pulp and paper manufacturing processes.   
  • Strong technical knowledge related to the manufacturing process. 
  • Ability to manage and/or lead projects and teams of people. 
  • Proven leadership ability in guiding a customer-focused organization to meet its business objectives.
