Salary Range ($89,000-$118,600) - Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills, and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range. Variable pay may provide additional opportunities for financial awards. This job is eligible to participate in IP’s short–term incentive plan.
The Job You Will Perform: The Valliant is a 5,000+ ton per day containerboard mill with three (3) paper machines, three (3) continuous digesters, three (3) secondary Fiber plants and a utilities/chemical recovery complex. It currently operates with 350+ mill employees, 150+ contract maintenance employees in a results oriented environment.
The Safety Supervisor provides guidance and leadership as a subject matter expert on safety, risk assessment, and security at the mill. This position reports to the Safety Manager and assists management by providing functional strategic direction for accomplishing our vision of Safety.
JOB FUNCTIONS (includes but are not limited to):
- Supervises all safety and security activities in a manner that meets or exceeds company and mill goals and objectives for safety
- Partners with key salary and hourly mill leaders in the development and implementation of safety systems, processes and procedures needed to accomplish our vision of safety
- Responsible for evaluating the mill’s working conditions, including the audits and inspections of equipment to maximize employee safety and ensure compliance with government regulations
- Recommend changes to reduce safety hazards and health risks.
- Responsible for developing policies, procedures, programs and implementation tools to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
- Responsible for ensuring development, training and execution of Mill Emergency Response Team.
- Demonstrate Safety Leadership in all aspects of job
- Work to engage all mill employees in the safety process and empower them to take personal ownership for safety results
The Skills You Will Bring:
- 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment
- Demonstrated propensity to lead based on successful formal leadership experience, preferably in a manufacturing/industrial environment
- Strong interpersonal skills with a developed competency to influence others
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead cross-functional teams including knowledge of basic facilitation techniques
- Clear ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects and deadlines
- Experience with Manufacturing Excellence tools and change management processes a plus
EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in safety, occupational health or technical discipline preferred or equivalent work experience
