The Job You Will Perform:
The Finished Products Front Line Leader (FLL), is responsible for supervising and leading shift team operations on the pulp machine and PS&D crews. This position reports to the Pulp Machine Area Process Manager (APM). The shift manager supports the operating crews’ contribution to achieving the Finished Products department objectives, and facilitates sound business decisions. The shift manager is accountable for the daily coordination of available mill resources to ensure continuity of pulp machine operations. Coordination with the machine and Shipping crews is also a primary role of the FP Shift Manager, with direct supervision and safety focus for these areas on nights and weekends, having direct contact and communication with PS&D and Finished Products Management.
Position Expectations:
The primary focus is to ensure productivity and performance of the operating teams to optimize safety, quality, cost control and machine productivity in daily operations on the pulp machine.
- Safety: The shift manager is responsible for conducting pre-shift (toolbox) safety meetings with his/her crew, and correcting unsafe behaviors and conditions. The shift manager supports EHS, drive safety with crews, lead in conducting incident investigations, complete safety observations and inspections and encourage their crew to do so as well. Audit housekeeping and other critical safety systems including fire protection, eye wash showers, etc.
- Operational Excellence: Manage Daily shift operations of the pulp machine with a focus on continuous improvement. Support routine and annual outages. Responsible for meeting and exceeding established production and quality goals. The FLL must coordinate and communicate directly within the FP team and effectively communicate and plan production with the other departments within the mill. Coordination of outside support as necessary and alerts to appropriate management of downtime, reject, and other operating issues. Review of daily paperwork and addressing day to day operational issues. Directing work for assigned shift maintenance resources is a key responsibility as well.
- People: Enhance employee engagement by providing leadership and direction to the shift. Provide for development and implementation of training for members. Conduct quarterly one-to-ones with crew members. Assign responsibility for tasks and decisions amongst the crew. Listen and respond to employee issues. Support crew guidance and ensure personnel issues on crew are addressed.
The Skills You Will Bring:
- Preferred one to five years leadership experience in paper manufacturing environment.
- Strong written and verbal English skills.
- Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Candidates must successfully complete the Front Line Leader onboarding tool.
