Journeyman Electrician Description:

Electricians are responsible for performing the work necessary to maintain a variety of control systems and electrical equipment (including AC, DC and synchronous motor control, Distributed Control Systems, control valves, and process measurement instrumentation used in manufacturing process control systems). 

 

In their role Electricians:

  • Must work safely in an industrial environment
  • Must have some knowledge of principles underlying the construction and use of control instrumentation, construction and use of low voltage and medium voltage AC motor starters, and the construction and use of Programmable Logic Controllers, Analog and digital system fault diagnostic techniques and procedures
  • Demonstrate skills as an electrician as a Journeyman; develop skills to become a Level 3 Instrument Electrician
  • Perform periodic inspections, testing, adjustments, calibrations, and servicing activities necessary to assure the proper operation of process instrumentation and control systems.
  • Be exposed to variable temperature/weather conditions; heights and potential electrical hazards.

Be available to work a flexible schedule, and on an as-needed basis.
 
Qualifications:   Minimum qualifications include an Applied Science technical degree or two years of experience working in the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.  Preferred successful candidates will have experience in performing work related to the installation, maintenance, emergency repair, inspection, and testing of a variety of control systems and electrical equipment (e.g. AC, DC and synchronous motor control, Distributed Control Systems, control valves, and process measurement instrumentation).
 
In addition, qualified candidates must be willing to meet the following requirements: Undergo a drug screen for illicit use of drugs as a condition of employment; Submit to periodic drug screens as a condition of employment; Work any shift and/or a rotating shift schedule; Work overtime on a regular basis and with last minute notification; Work holidays and/or weekends on a regular basis; Wear required safety equipment; Operate or work in industrial conditions (i.e. warm/hot, dusty/dirty, around hazardous chemicals, noise, heavy machinery or elevated working surfaces with proper safety training and safety protection).

Compensation & Benefits: Starting pay for Journeyman Electricians is $30.40 (plus shift differential for those working rotating shifts).   International Paper’s Vicksburg Mill offers all employees a competitive benefits package, including health care insurance, life insurance, holiday pay and paid vacation.
