J1 Pipefitter

Journeyman I Pipefitter Welders perform routine and non-routine maintenance work independently and must possess the applied knowledge on the pipe fitting and welding processes for industrial piping, including:

  • Ability to perform arc and heliarc welding of both carbon and stainless steel
  • Ability to fabricate piping systems, including correctly figuring takeouts for valves and  fittings and lay out offsets
  • Knowledge of proper installation of bolt-up components, including gasket and fastener selection and torquing
  • Able to select the correct type and size of pipe and related materials according to job and process specifications.
  • Capable of planning piping installations to avoid obstructions and unnecessary work
  • Ability to thread and assemble screwed pipe
  • Knowledge of the proper method of securing pipe to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers.
  • Able to conduct leak testing of piping systems.
  • Must be proficient in basic rigging and working with mechanical tools.
  • Must be able to read blueprints and piping schematics
  • Must be willing and able to maintain company-required maintenance records for equipment history and QA/QC activities
  • Able to climb and work in high places and operate small and large hand and power tools, overhead cranes, hoists, man-lifts, forklifts and related tools and moving equipment.
  • Computer skills are required (SAP)
  • Five (5) years of experience in any of the following Maintenance Skill Areas:  WELDING OR PIPEFITTING.
  • Must be 18 years or older and eligible for employment in the US
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Industrial technology degree or certificate from accredited college or trade school in a mechanical discipline (welding or pipefitting)
  • Basic computer skills; strong math/physics understanding
  • Able to function in a team environment.
    PLUS: Must be willing to meet the following requirements:
  • Pre-employment and periodic drug screens for illicit use of drugs
  • Work any shift and/or a rotating shift schedule
  • Work overtime, holidays and/or weekends regularly and with last minute notification.
  • Wear required safety equipment
  • Operate or work in industrial conditions (i.e. warm/hot, dusty/dirty, around hazardous chemicals, noise, heavy machinery or elevated working surfaces with proper safety training and safety protection).
