The Job You Will Perform:
- Lead all Business Unit activities in the Utilities area in an engaged manner that is favorable to all safety, budget, and availability expectations. Work closely with the other mill Business Units personnel to achieve mill objectives.
- Lead, by example, the safety processes for the department – including safety work systems, incident reporting and corrective action plans, HSE program elements, operator safety training, and environmental policy compliance.
- Ensure that the Bogalusa mill’s power and recovery areas operate in accordance with all company policies.
- Responsible for coordination of all operations, maintenance and engineering activities within the department. The department includes all equipment, structures, and personnel associated with the power boilers, recovery boilers, steam turbines, air compressors, evaporators, bark system, incoming water supply, and the effluent system.
- Lead operations and maintenance personnel to achieve performance and efficiency targets.
- Manage total spending and budgeting processes for the Power and Recovery areas.
- Responsible for the proper implementation and continuous improvement of the company’s reliability systems within the department – PM/PdM, IEPM, MWS, RCFA, AO Planning.
- Ensure that all capital projects in the Utilities Department are developed and implemented successfully. Provide input to other mill projects that stand to impact power, steam, air, liquor, or water.
- Develop the 15-year Facility Plan, annual capital spending ideas/plans, cost reduction initiatives, and 3-year maintenance 1-timer plans for the department.
- Manage Union Relations for the department.
- Foster a motivated workforce by maintaining positive employee relations and ensuring that the teams have what they need to be successful.
- Maintain oversight of all employee engagement, employee relations, discipline (including Step 2 meetings), one-to-one compliance, and performance improvement plans.
- Develop direct reports in their current roles and prepare them for future assignments.
- Chair the training steering team for the department and ensure there are adequate plans in place to match current training efforts to the future needs of the department.
- As a member of the Lead Team, actively participate in providing counsel and making decisions on matters that impact the direction of the mill.
The Skills You Will Bring:
Minimum:
- College Degree Required
- Demonstrated and successful leadership ability in a manufacturing environment, including knowledge of and leadership in manufacturing safety practices.
- 7+ years’ experience in pulp and paper.
- Must have a high level of integrity, energy, and leadership ability to develop and lead others.
- Demonstrated and successful ability to lead and continuously improve team performance in order to work injury-free, provide a quality product, and achieve world class productivity in support of a high-performance work system.
- Effective oral and written communications skills with proven ability to provide positive and improvement feedback, coaching opportunities, and take corrective measures as appropriate.
- Strong computer skills required.
Preferred:
- Excellent skills in organizing, planning, priority setting, and time management, with proven ability to adapt to sudden changes in the work environment.
- Ability to effectively facilitate problem solving or conflict resolution processes.
