Pay Rate:

$86,000-$115,700

 

Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range.

 

Variable pay may provide additional opportunities for financial awards. This job is eligible to participate in IP’s short –term incentive plan.

PURPOSE:

Provide leadership and support within a high performance work system to all facets of the manufacturing process while on shift. The Shift Team Leader is responsible for team performance, team member engagement, and achieving manufacturing results on a shift-to-shift basis. Must support and exemplify the vision and organizational values of International Paper, Cedar River Mill.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The key accountabilities listed below are not to be considered all-inclusive; a team member may be required to perform additional tasks, as directed, and based on changing business needs of the company.

  • Supports and leads efforts at Cedar River that include an injury-free environment through role modeling safe behavior, active involvement in safety activities and maintaining a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Completes the First Line Leader (FLL) Onboarding/Proficiency Curriculum
  • Coordinates and leads efforts to support high performance work teams.
  • Leadership role in ensuring team member relations, efforts, and processes are in place to maximize team member engagement and results.
  • Leads, provides guidance, and/or supports teams as needed to achieve small team goals, daily responsibilities, and overall achievement of mill goals.
  • Manages daily shift operations of #1 paper machine, #2 paper machine, and OCC with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Active shift leader, responsible for short-term (shift-to-shift) mill performance and long-term performance of small teams.
  • Provides feedback, coaching, support and, when necessary, take corrective measures, to ensure all team members have a positive, productive, and safe work environment.
  • Provides coaching and training to team members as needed for technical, behavioral, and individual development opportunities.
  • Utilizes Training Development Team (TDT) and Team Scheduler, as appropriate, to develop effective staffing plans and ensure team members’ flow to work as mill needs dictate.
  • Communicates as needed with team members and mill leadership for resolution of safety, quality, cost, production, and personnel issues.
  • Communicates and lead the application of facility policies and standards.
  • If applicable/qualified, maintains Core 3 skill to relieve or fill-in during emergency staffing situation.
  • If applicable, seamless transition from Core 3 to Shift Team Leader responsibilities in key responsibilities and leadership behaviors.
  • Active in small team’s formal peer evaluation process.
  • Leads Training Development Team (TDT) (Department Learning Leader).
  • Coaches safety in others and leads by example.
  • Understands and meets internal and external customer requirements.
  • Develops, maintains, and uses reliable methods for all processes and their improvements.
  • Assists other team members in the mill as necessary to minimize downtime and maintain quality.
  • Maintains and develops team relationships.
  • Develops cross-functional process skills.
  • Positive, upbeat attitude that instills confidence in personal leadership ability.
  • Fullfill area specific 5S expectations(5 Minute 5S Checklists Replenishment of tools and supplies, 5S Audits,etc)

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to wear all required safety equipment.
  • Noise levels in excess of 90 dB.
  • Heat in excess of 100°F occasionally.
  • Working environment is 24/7 – ability to be on-call as needed and/or required.+
  • Must be able to remain in stationary position 80% of shift time.
  • Walking: Within immediate area and up and down several floors.
  • Carrying: Periodically tools and equipment.
  • Occasionally ascends/descends stairs, ladders and into tanks ,into and onto tanks and other vessels

  • Demonstrated and successful leadership ability in a manufacturing environment, including knowledge of and leadership in manufacturing safety practices.
  • Effectively model the Cedar River Organizational Values, and commitment to leading Cedar River to an injury-free work environment through leadership and role modeling

safe behavior and personal attention to and direct involvement in safety activities and maintaining a clean and orderly work environment.

  • Must have a high level of integrity, energy, and leadership ability to develop and lead others.
  • Demonstrated and successful ability to lead and continuously improve team performance in order to work injury-free, provide a quality product, and achieve world class productivity in support of a high performance work system.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills with proven ability to provide positive and improvement feedback, coaching opportunities, and take corrective measures as appropriate.
  • Strong computer skills required.

 

Preferred

  • College degree preferred.
  • Excellent skills in organizing, planning, priority setting, and time management, with proven ability to adapt to sudden changes in the work environment.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate problem solving or conflict resolution processes.
  • Ability to work with process team members, maintenance, and suppliers.
