This position supports International Paper’s Columbus Mill (CCF), located in Columbus, Mississippi. CCF is a vital part of International Paper’s Global Cellulose Fibers Business. We are a converting operation that produces specialty fibers used in the production of diapers and other absorbent personal care products.
The Job You Will Perform:
This position reports to the Plant Electrical Superintendent and is responsible for moderately complex engineering projects and directing the work of assigned technical associates to promote increased performance and reliability of machinery and equipment through failure analysis.
Tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results. Safety Certification in IP system required.
- Work with operations and maintenance teams to implement strategic maintenance initiatives that support achievement of reliability objectives, key performance metrics, and maintenance cost objectives and capital projects execution.
- Drive continuous improvement through positive influence, IP best practices, FMEA, and RCFA.
- RCFA facilitation by leading a group to quickly and thoroughly identify and solve latent causes.
- Responsible for ensuring projects are compliant with NFPA 70E safety requirements.
- Responsible for all aspects of asset management for Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) equipment, including but not limited to:
- Low Voltage AC Drive Systems (AB PowerFlex)
- Medium Voltage AC Drive Systems (AB PowerFlex 7000, Durabilt, ACS 880)
- Cordinated DC Drive Systems (GE Innovation series and ABB DCS 880)
- Actively participate in monthly IP EPD, Motor, and Drive best practice calls.
- Attend IP drives round table events.
- Maintains current gap analysis against GMS requirements.
- Provide outage support for other IP mills as needed.
- Provides electrical and instrumentation (E&I) design support to the maintenance department and capital engineering department.
- Support factory acceptance testing of AC and DC drive systems.
- Provides technical assistance and advice as necessary to aid in troubleshooting complex issues in manufacturing processes.
- Responsible for management of predictive and preventative inspections and corrective action planning of AC and DC drive systems.
- Responsible for maintaining (5) Capital plan for AC and DC drive systems.
- Responsible for stores capacitor reformatting program.
- Monitor effectiveness of E&I predictive and preventative maintenance programs.
- Build effective systems and materials such as operating procedures (SOP), troubleshooting documents (TCC), and other training materials.
- Responsible for maintaining DC drive system trainer and development of E&I team training ciriculum.
- Rotate with other leaders to provide electrical Weekend Duty support.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience in a manufacturing environment
- Minimum of three (3) years of electrical engineering experience in manufacturing environment
- AC and DC drive system experience required
- Strong computer skills including proficiency with AutoCAD and all Microsoft Office applications
- Experience in the pulp and paper industry is preferred
- Excellent leadership skills
