Pay Rate:

$81,700 - $108,900

Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills, and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay/PL range.  Variable pay may provide additional opportunities for financial awards. This job is eligible to participate in IP’s short–term incentive plan.

The Job You Will Perform:

 

The Shipping First Line Leader is responsible for the management, coordination, and direction of a crew of 11 operating members in the Shipping Department. This role reports to the Shipping Area Manager.

 

  • People: Responsible for making sure that all members understand what is expected of them, conducting one-to-ones, and holding members accountable for those expectations.
  • Operations: Accountable for managing rail and truck loading of approximately 2,400 tons per shift.  Ability to solve mechanical / operation malfunctions throughout the Shipping department.
  • Safety: Lead and manage safety, ensuring that all safety and housekeeping goals are accomplished. Support the EHS coordinators and Safety Captains, drive safety with the crew, and assist in conducting incident investigations, safety observations, and inspections.
  • Communication: Demonstrate the ability to effectively interact with all operating departments and all levels of mill management and ensure the timely and accurate communication of information to and from all levels.  Demonstrate good listening and communication skills.  Attend and participate in all FLL meetings.

 

The Skills You Will Bring:

 

Qualified candidates must possess a solid understanding of the Finished Products Area and a thorough knowledge of all Shipping Department processes.  This includes key understandings of the critical parameters that impact safety, environmental, costs, quality, and customers.  Candidates must also possess a clear ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks, an understanding of team concepts, a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, as well as an established skill to execute work based on standards and procedures. Qualified candidates must have a demonstrated ability to enforce accountability. To be considered, candidates must be a member in good standing.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Provide strong leadership to the crew (i.e. shift schedule, overtime controls, training, goal setting, effective communication on department/mill key levers, motivation, lead Guidance Committees, performance management - coaching and counseling, promote accountability, progressive discipline as necessary, etc.)
  2. Conducting regular 1:1’s with all members to address training concerns, questions, coaching and counseling for performance issues as required.
  3. Possess the understanding of the department’s safety rules and regulations.  Be the driving force for the shift’s safety program (i.e. lead safety meetings with the shift, motivate the shift, conduct safety observations, effective communication on key safety issues, participate in FLL safety meetings, hold members accountable for their actions).
  4. The ability to understand and explain the importance of safety, the Mansfield Philosophy, key levers, and mill financial indicators and how they as front line leaders can impact those areas
  5. Know how to proficiently find all start-up and shutdown procedures for all equipment and have a basic understanding of those procedures.
  6. Demonstrate good listening and communication skills
  7. Demonstrate the ability to effectively interact with all operating departments and all levels of mill management.
