$142,000-$173,600

Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range.

The Job You Will Perform:

The Utilities Superintendent will report to the Utilities Business Unit Manager in our lean manufacturing environment.  This position will support Flint River’s performance and safety goals by supporting day-to-day manufacturing responsibilities.  This position will guarantee the appropriate internal operations resources are identified and readily accessible to accomplish mill and business specific requirements and initiatives.  The individual must support and exemplify the vision and organizational values of International Paper Flint River Mill. This person will be a self starter and positioned for a BUM opportunity.

The key accountabilities listed below are not to be considered all-inclusive; a team member may be required to perform additional tasks, as directed, based on changing business needs of the company.

  • Champion safety efforts resulting in superior performance by modeling and maintaining an environment of safe work practices and proactive approach to safety management.
  • Develop the leadership skills and process knowledge of our shift Team Leaders and Area Managers.
  • Support the Utilities Business Unit Manager in:
    • Leading operations of the Utilities area.
    • Supporting accountability and knowledge transfer initiatives.
    • Driving efforts in key focus areas including safety, production and cost efficiencies, reliability, team member engagement, and environmental stewardship, to achieve or exceed targeted performance.
  • Provide leadership and resources to support engagement and a high performance work team. Champion the IP Way and the one-to-one process.
  • Ensure development and implementation of manufacturing systems, including use of sustainability tools such as Trouble/Cause/Correction (TCC) and Centerlining.
  • Clearly communicate and demonstrate quality principles and processes.
  • Help develop, demonstrate and support an organizational culture based upon values of empowerment, high involvement, and participative work force in a customer- and quality-focused organization.
  • Take initiative to pro-actively deal with issues both with the team and cross-functionally, ensuring communication flows to and from team.
  • Understand and meet internal and external customer requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and use sustainable methods for all processes and their improvements.
  • Manage team members in the mill as necessary to minimize downtime and maintain quality, and sets clear expectations holding team members accountable for meeting them.
  • Maintain and develop team relationships.
  • Develop cross-functional process skills.

 

Quality Expectations

  • Ensure an understanding of quality policy and support efforts for a positive customer experience.
  • Aid in the execution of mill-wide quality efforts as needed to help maintain mill quality standards.

 

 

The Skills You Will Bring:

Minimum

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a manufacturing lead position in pulp and paper mill. Experience with Recovery and Utilities is required.
  • Experience developing and implementing annual productivity plans.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills; problem solving, negotiation, presentation and training delivery skills.
  • Microsoft Office Profiency
  • Demonstrated leadership skills combined with technical paper-making knowledge required

 

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or pulp and paper science
  • Experience in strategic planning and budgeting processes.
  • Experience working in and managing High Performance Work Systems. 
  • Greenbelt Certification
