The Job You Will Perform:
This position reports to the Utilities Business Unit Manager (BUM) and is a mid-level management position at the New Bern Cellulose Fibers Mill. The position is responsible for the safe, responsible, environmentally sound, and reliable operation of an area of Power and Recovery Business Unit.
- Work as a key team member of the Business Unit to together deliver and exceed expected Business Unit results today, and help build a stronger and more resilient Power and Recovery Business Unit for the future.
- Responsible for a safe work environment and demonstrates safety leadership in all aspects of the manufacturing operation. Activities include, but are not limited to leading safety meetings, conducting observations, coaching and correcting unsafe behaviors and conditions, and the implementation of all policies and procedures.
- Working through the Shift Team Leaders and the operating crews.
- Directly oversee the operation of all processes and equipment in a manner that ensures and delivers compliance to all applicable environmental permits and regulations.
- Be directly involved with the maintenance and capital work of the key areas of operation assigned.
- Ensure that the Mill and Corporate safety policies are complied with, including compliance with all Power and Recovery Technology policy manuals.
- Develop and implement management systems to maintain the safe and reliable operation of the Business Unit within established parameters. For example –center-lining, log sheet review, checklists, Operator Basic Care, continuous improvement, etc.
- Ensure that all necessary Lockout Procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, and TCC’s (Trouble, Cause, Correction procedures) are developed, updated, and readily available as appropriate.
- Active involvement with Department Learning Leader for all training related activities in areas of responsibility including operator certifications, required refresher training, and training on new processes and/or equipment.
- Participate in the Business Unit Manufacturing Work Systems team, working with the team to ensure that the Reliability Elements are integrated into short term and long term execution plans.
- Work with the Operations Maintenance Coordinator to efficiently and effectively schedule and execute safe and responsible maintenance outages.
- Manage the budget for areas for which you are responsible.
- Coordinate Business Unit activities with Area Process Managers from other Business Units within the mill to maximize mill business results.
The Skills You Will Bring:
- Preferred B.S. degree in Engineering and a minimum of 5 years managing Power and Recovery processes (Kraft Recovery Boiler, Power Boilers, Steam Header management and distribution, Turbine/Generator, Water Treatment, Filter Plant, Demineralizers, Evaporators, Concentrators, High Solids Concentrators, Precipitators, Lime Kiln and Recausticizing, Soap and Tall Oil systems, Effluent Treatment, …); manufacturing setting preferred.
- Strong computer and data analysis skills. Knowledge of Process Book/PI, Parcview, Proficy, Excel, Minitab, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project, SAP is valued.
- Leadership skills.

Our GCF business helps customers transform renewable cellulose fibers into essential everyday products. Our high-quality, superior grade pulps form the basis for diverse applications, ranging from personal care items to specialty materials. We create components for diapers, tissues and feminine care products, as well as sustainable materials for the textile and construction industry.
